since morning Anupam Kher has gone berserk thanking any T,D& H who congratulates him for being appointed chief of FTII. FTII is another JNU. Catering to idiots in Filmistan. Some of the students have been in hostels since > 10 years. Rather than shutting these parasites down there seems to be some 'ever chankian' move in keeping them afloat. Tomorrow if there is regime change same FTII will have Nidhi Razdan as chair.

Today it is an Indic-friendly regime so the chair of the institution is Indic. What is wrong with celebrating that?
It is not as if the concrete and wood of FTII (or even JNU) have some magic powers that transform everybody who comes there into anti-nationals. These institutions (and their students) confirm to one ideology or the other because of the influence of the faculty, and especially the leadership. If the institutions can be brought under Indic leadership, they can be force-multipliers of nationalist ideology in tandem with whatever skill development they offer. That in my view is a good thing.
Re: Social Media Thread
I have it on good authority that this bolded bit is not true, and while there are a few such cases (like the guy who led the protests 2 years back), there is another side to the story. FTII does not come under MoHRD, but under the MoI&B. Due to this, there are no norms to follow for regular coursework and graduate on time. Many specialised courses aren't offered regularly (each academic year), so students have to keep doing some internship and stay afloat, so they can complete such courses and graduate with a useful degree. Just graduating without doing these courses defeats the purpose of studying here, as there is no differentiating factor in the job market then. Whatever little norms there are, are not enforced by I&B primarily because they are not equipped to do so - this is an edu insti and I&B still thinks in terms of DD, NFDC, and some typical govt sponsored cringe-worthy ads we see before the start of a movie in any theatre. Running a premier edu insti is not their forte, nor should it be their responsibility. But that's what it's been for a long time. Ideally, this insti should also be shifted under MoHRD, with technical support provided by the I&B min. (I actually think that the I&B min itself is a dinosaur and should be shut down).Indrad wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2017 6:42 pmsince morning Anupam Kher has gone berserk thanking any T,D& H who congratulates him for being appointed chief of FTII. One thing that's true is that FTII, like JNU is a leftist den. Which is true for most educational insti (how many of us were dyed-in-the-sickular when graduating?) But to shut it down for being a leftist den is to throw the baby out with the bath water. There are actually not that many film instis in India with good infra and govt support - the only decent and affordable alternative is the MGR film institute in Chennai. But being funded by the SG, it cannot afford the infra FTII has. The latter has some really top-of-the-line equipment for hands on learning, alternatives to which don't exist at this point.
As for the "idiots in filmistan", that's a very bhaiwood centric view. The same "idiots" also did come up with good stuff in other film industries. Remember Baahubali and its cinematography? The cinematographer, K.K. Sethil Kumar was a graduate of FTII. Should we shut that down as well?
If Anupam Kher is appointed FTII chairperson, that's a good thing, isn't it? He is from the industry, and not some masaledaar actor either. How much technical knowledge he has is something I am not aware of, but that should be apparent after a year or so. In any case, a far better choice than some of the choices seen over the past few decades.

http://epaperbeta.timesofindia.com/Arti ...
NEW TWIST IN LEATHER BAG STORY - `I hate Hindus, wanted to spark communal tensions'
Munish Pandey
Two months after claiming harassment by an auto driver over his office bag, Barun Kashyap sings a different tune during custodial interrogation; political conspiracy angle being probed too
Film executive Barun Kashyap, who sparked a huge controversy in August after claiming that an auto driver bullied him accusing him of using a bag made of cowhide, spun a web of lies to disrupt communal harmony in Mumbai.
This sensational revelation came during Kashyap's interrogation in police custody. In a confessional statement, Mirror accessed a copy, the creative director with a media house said his `hatred for Hindus' prompted him to come up with the story.
“I accept that I lied about the entire incident. No such incident ever took place. My Facebook post was a lie,“ reads the statement. To questions by cops about the reason for such a bluff, the 24-year-old said, “I lied because have hatred towards Hindus.“
According to the police, Kashyap's intention was to play victim to gau rakshaks (cow vigilantes) and share his `plight' to disrupt communal harmony in Mumbai as well as across the country.
In a complaint to the D N Nagar police on August 19, Kashyap, who lives opposite the Infinity Mall in Andheri, said he boarded an auto for his office around 11 am. During the commute, the professional said, the driver said his leather bag was stinking and asked if it was made of cowhide.
Despite telling that it was camel skin, the autowallah stopped the three-wheeler at some place and returned with three men who heck led him, Kashyap alleged. “Aaj toh bach gaye [you were saved today],“ he told the cops quoting the men.
The film executive, who hails from Assam, also narrated the incident in a Facebook post, raising a storm and putting immense pressure on the government to act.Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had then said that the culprits won't be spared.
WHAT WENT AGAINST KASHYAP
As the police began to investigate Kashyap's allegations, they found that the film executive left home at 1 pm, not 11 am as claimed by him, and took nine minutes to reach his office. “We collected footage of CCTV cameras installed on the entire stretch. We discovered that it was a smooth ride and the auto did not stop even for a minute. It was beyond doubt that he had lied to us.That is why we registered a case against him,“ said Deven Bharti, joint commissioner of police (law and order).
POLITICS BEHIND THE SCRIPT?
The police are also probing if Kashyap's allegations were part of a political conspiracy. “The fact that after the case was registered against Barun, he approached Aam Aadmi Party leader Priti Sharma Menon and stayed at her Chembur home for two days indicates a lot of things.The question is why he approached a political party for legal assistance.Was this a pre-planned agenda,“ asked a senior police officer.
CHARGE SHEET SOON
The Amboli police, which probed the case, are likely to file the charge sheet in a few days, said sources.Kashyap, who was arrested on October 4 and is currently lodged in Arthur Road prison, has been booked under section 153A (promoting enmity between groups) and 182B (for use of lawful power of a public servant to injure or annoy any person) of the Indian Penal Code.
If convicted by a court, he can face jail up to five years. Sources said the cops will also record the statement of the AAP leader.
Re: Social Media Thread
Sangeet Som has just come under fire on social media for suggesting that the Taj is a blot on our culture.
While his comments could have been more elegantly worded, I do not disagree. I just feel the argument can be made in a more sophisticated manner and I intend to do it on SM when the sickulars bring it up.
- Shahjahan financed his monument building by heavy taxation, which led to the greatest recorded famine in history. One extract of the effects of
famine: 'Even in the following year there had been a deficiency in the bordering countries and a total absence of rain in the Deccan and Gujarat. The inhabitants of these two countries were reduced to the direst extremity. Life was offered for a loaf, but none would buy; rank was to be sold for a cake, but none cared for it; the once bounteous hand was now stretched out to beg for food, and the feet which had always trodden the way of contentment walked about only in search of sustenance. For a long time dog’s flesh was sold for goat’s flesh and the pounded bones of the dead were mixed with flour and sold, but when this was discovered, the sellers were brought to justice. Destitution at length reached such a pitch that men began to devour each other and the flesh of a son was preferred to his love. The multitude of those who died blocked the roads, and every man whose dire sufferings did not terminate in death and who retained the power to move wandered off to the towns and villages of other countries'.
Of course, this was given a liberal spin with the comment that the Emperor was generous enough to distribute Rs 5000 to the starving.
I don't admire the great Christian churches of the West (my religion) as they were financed in pretty much the same way.
- The 20,000 workers took 22 years to build it (most of their working lives, since life expectancy was lower). They were rewarded by having
their hands cut off (hitherto only a punishment reserved for thieves). The loss of hands meant the loss of their only means of livelihood,
which possible meant the starvation of 100,000 people (incl, families of the workers).
All this suffering for a tomb (it was never a Mahal) for one of his many wives.

is it clearly written that hands were cut off on all workers. i heard the chief architect was executed or blinded(another turkic sultanate tradition) and no mention of the workers.
who was the chief architect or more likely a panel of senior designers is also not known to me..likely a foreign consultant from persian empire as was the one for humayun tomb complex. we were always fond of TOT and imports. https://www.britannica.com/biography/Mirak-Mirza-Ghiyas

Re: Social Media Thread
chief architect was one Lahouri from Lahour. He also designed Red fort. But I have also read chief architect was one Baghdadi!
https://www.pbs.org/treasuresoftheworld ... esign.htmlSeveral designers and architects – thirty seven men in all – are mentioned by name in the official Mughal histories, and it is probable that they would have worked together to form the creative team that shaped the Taj Mahal:
Ismail Afandi (a.k.a. Ismail Khan) who had worked for the great Ottomans in Turkey as a designer and builder of domes;
Qazim Khan, a goldsmith from Lahore who cast the gold finial that crowns the dome;
Chiranji Lal, a lapidary from Delhi chosen as the chief mosaicist;
Amanat Khan from Shiraz, the master calligrapher whose signature is inscribed on the Taj gateway;
Mohammed Hanif, Multan and Quandhar, master masons from Delhi; and
Mukrimat Khan and Mir Abdul Karim from Shiraz, chief supervisors and administrators.
Ustad Ahmad (a.k.a. Isa Khan), an architect in the court of Shah Jahan from Lahore, is most often credited as the chief architect (or plan drawer) of the Taj Mahal, based on a seventeenth century manuscript which claims that Ustad Ahmad was the architect of both the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort at Delhi.

documented is the famine that took place around the time of the construction.
The names of the `design team' of the Taj are documented in Mughal records. About half the team were from Persia/Turkey, the others
from Lahore, Delhi, Kandahar etc.
