are Yezdi bikes still around?

in my days it was considered a speed demon street bike and all the town hoodlums and sports club dadas used to ride it , with shirts open down to navel.

Haven't seen them for over a decade. One more was Java. Both 250CC noisy hoodlums bikes.

My dad had one and rode 1lakh km. He bought it from a chennai racer, a free flow exhaust, sport carb, dual tone custom paint with a front fairing. It used to very noisy such that we could here it from a km far.
Finally he detuned it with a rajdoot carb, normal exhaust aftet finding it unviable to run.

Now Mahindra has bought the rights for the defunct jawa

Rajdoot - ah a forgotten name. my elder cousin had a D175 which looked pretty sober and family oriented. the Rajdoot D350 was perceived as a more refined beast than the bullet in those days.

Tho kya hua bhayya? It was manufactured by HM, had rugged and solid build. Have many memories of it.

We had the old yezdi of 70s. They stopped it after onslaught of jap-Indian makes starting late 80s. There was a relaunch model - roadking. It did not pick up as people were more kmpl conscious. Splendor gives 80 and yezdi will give 35 at best. It's a collector thing now, as well as the RD350.

Everybody likes to say they have fond memories of amby but nobody will put their money where their mouth is. HM had all the opportunities to diversify product range and grow. Ambys days reflect our failures more than success.

It was one of the most unsafe cars around. Piece of nostalgia yes and reminiscent of license raj. I recently travelled on one of them from Chennai airport and not as comfortable as one perceives it to be
It was quite comfortable when compared to premier padmini which was very cramped. The isuzu diesel engine used on it was a pretty good one though

I've been to their factory in WB actually. Worst plant ever visited. Workers openly drinking out of their oil cans  (filled with alcohol and smuggled inside) ...one board claiming that number of hammers used has reduced from X to Y ..when it should really be zero

Production stopped, but do you know it was made in Mysore. There is a thriving second hand market in Yezdi with large riding population in big cities. I was planning to buy one last year, but backed off thinking I may not have time to ride it.

Is anyone here into auto detailing? There seems to be a real lack of availability of good auto detailing materials in India. At least I can’t find them in major 2nd tier cities.

In India I find that many cars come without a clear coat unlike the US, even though they cost the same.

You could say 150cc. Hardly any bike lower than that unless we are talking about mopeds. 200cc is common, which will be the norm in few years time.

Nope. Splendor is still the largest selling bike followed by HF Deluxe.

Not from my duniyaa ka kona, Rajdoot was more of a doodhwala / dhobighat bike whereas bullet was bolismaan / fauji / dada bike.

Yezdi and Jawa are the same. The company was Ideal Jawa in Mysore.
The last Maharaja of Mysore H.H Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar provided land for the company so it was named after him Ja and Wa after his initials. The brand name later on was changed to Yezdi after a town in Iran where the founding family (Iranian Parsis) came from (Yazd in Iran). F.K Irani was the founder and was a bad aadmi in Mysore.

During my childhood Ideal Jawa had many employees whom we knew. Our local library wallah worked there during the day and ran the library during the evenings. Then it ran into Union problems and shut down in the 80s. They opened intermittently but then closed for good in the mid 90s. They sold the land off to developers and apartments are coming up.
This is what used to be the Ideal Jawa campus.

Ideal Jawa campus

The last Yezdi bike that I remember seeing was a Yezdi 175. I think it was around 1989.

Not much personally but know a few of detailing enthusiasts in Chennai and Bangalore. One of them has quit his job and turned professsional. Lot of stuff is available through online. Check the detailing threads in gearheads.in

All cars in India does with clearcoat these days but get damaged soon pretty soon because the layer is very thin especially on the Jap origin ones. The other reason is due to bad maintenanance practices, rubbing and polishing done by local garages, authorized service centers. 3M rules the roost here and their products are on the abrasive side.

Yes, AFAIK Jawa is the parent and that company exists in a different form in Czech. The ckd version were called Jawa and Yezdi was Indian made product. The company was killed by labor issues and then the Japanese bikes that came after, that were more reliable and clean burning than Yezdi.

It could be. But this version was also widely circulated, so it is possible that they used both connections.

Yes. Jawa is Czech and now Mahindra has now got the rights for the name as they plan to bring the legacy back.

175 was the response to the Japanese products but failed. Ours was a 1978 yezdi model, our family friend had a roadking 350. We had different versions of Rajdoot at home including the non doodhwala version of RD175. Rd350 was an yamaha and apparently MSD owns a few.

RE tried the crusader, mini bullet and the fury 175 in collaboration with Zundapp. Fury handlebar is a craze among the bikers those days. My uncle boight the 1985 Ind suzuki which i inherited and sold it in 2004
