OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India)

Post by Rudradev » Mon Apr 16, 2018 10:31 pm

Hi all,

My cousin has an OCI card which gives his address as his US address (which is on his US passport, and where he lives most of the time).

He wants to change the address on his OCI card to be his parents' address in Mumbai.

Any idea what it takes to do this, or if it is possible? Does he have to apply via Cox & Kings, and if so, under which category?

Thanks!

In the website 'https://passport.gov.in/oci', you can use 'Miscellaneous Services' to change address/occupation.

the VFS links http://www.vfsglobal.com/india/australi ... rvice.html mentions that
In case of change of address/occupation
In case of change of address/occupation, new set of OCI documents will not be issued. The applicant may take a print out of the new address/occupation after online submission and keep for record purposes. No fee shall be charged from the applicant

May I ask why is the address change necessary?

What is the address used for anyways?

It has nothing to do with OCI.

You have to be resident. Even resident foreign nationals can get aadhaar.

But you have to sign on the enrollment form which explicitly states that you have been in India for 184 days (6 months) before the date of application.

of course...that's what 'resident' means per Indian regulations. my kids are massa born, but going to school in India and have aadhaars. OCI yes or no is irrelevant.

Does OCI card needs to be re-endorsed every time the passport is renewed? It is pain especially for kids whose passports change every 5 years.

It's complicated. My cousin is involved with a property inheritance issue and has been advised that it is best for him to have OCI card showing his residential address as his parents' home in India, which is the property in question.
