Yep. But linking this scheme with Aadhaar would be the first round of firing, as I see it .

Standard deduction of 40k with no change in personal income tax. Health and education cess increased to 4%. WTF
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Get ready for Middle class Waaa waaa on Budget since they did not get any sops. Of course being flag bearer of mefirst generation, I feel there is nothing much for me in this budget except for some more inflation and higher LPG prices.
MehtaJi: Banning a movie or a novel is never a solution. If Govt did not ban the movie, that should be welcomed. Freedom of speech and expression should not be strangulated just because its hard to swallow it. What fear do we hide in our dark dingy corners?
I don't think invaders won because of Jury system. If you keep knocking at the door, one day it will break open and you will remember only the last knock. All other knocks which the door defended will be forgotten in a jiffy and that's what we are doing.
If Muslim invaders were so smart in making cannons, How come later they lost to Babur and Nadirshah and Taimur and eventually the Brits. Your explainination is pretty simple and does not take in account other factors like weather, relative affluence, Dharmic values, lack of exposure to battles west of Afghanistan or east of Brahamputra.

It remains to be seen as to what will bring the urban middle class to the voting booths in 2019 like it was in 2014. I am not able to think of any. They seem to be betting big on the rural folk voting enmasse for BJP, but am not sure. Anyways from a personal standpoint am very disappointed at the salaried class once again being taken for granted.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Yes, Income tax rates or Limits, Petrol Prices, LPG prices. Somewhere BJP needs to give relief to Urban Middle classes. Seems to be a clear disconnect here.
After the By polls in Rajastan looks like INC is on a very strong wicket.

Isn't there one more budget left??
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Election Commission may announce the 2019 LS elections by then. And then the "moral code of conduct" would fall in place.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
IMO, FM''s don't really care about the salaried class. Either they assume that we make enough money via corruption (if sarkaari babu) or pvt sector pays us mind boggling salary. Will I still vote for BJP, absolutely. Will I still go out and vote, Umm!! Let me see.Chandrasekaran wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2018 8:03 amIt remains to be seen as to what will bring the urban middle class to the voting booths in 2019 like it was in 2014. When was the last time any PM or FM even uttered the word middle class except for chattered blaming them for all the evils befalling our society. Overall AJ has been a disappointment with nothing as his stamp on any budget despite presenting 5 of them.
We still rightly or wrongly have only one FM who changed the course of Indian economy and that is 'Theek hai'.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Tend to agree with you. The rural folk, honestly are much more easier to be influenced. So if BJP feels that they can be influenced more easily, that may have reflected in this budget as well. Pump in some good money that side, get the support of various Sangh Parivar organisations to work on the ground and spread the benefit across. Ultimately a vote is a vote, no rural v/s urban divide there. The middle-class can be swayed through very many other ways (tax exemption, or giving every thing at subsidized rates may not be the only solution). This group is also the maximum "insecure" set of people. Their votes can also be swayed at the last moment playing upon this factor.Chandrasekaran wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2018 8:03 amIt remains to be seen as to what will bring the urban middle class to the voting booths in 2019 like it was in 2014. don't kill me if untrue but little fly on wall says GE may happen in 2018 itself...
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Habibi, and I am standing with the middle class on this. GoI is busy slapping cess on us and in return I get broken infra, corruption, subsidy for Islamists and Delhi usurping all benefits, less said about any kep govt service, better it is.

That is your idea of vigilantism - breaking the law. I mentioned standing your ground. Btw what do you think should have happened in Gujrat after the Godhra incident?Trilobite wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2018 1:17 am
Standing up for ground on indic or any xyz_ic issue can be done within the parameters of law, and democracy provides space for that. Vigilantism is breaking the law and therefore criminal. There is no "good" vigilantism. I can not agree that there is a "kosher" variety of vigilantism.

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
scary result in Rajasthan. civic polls and now bypolls.
My biggest worry is those extra % voted in 2014, if they stay away this time then we are staring at the hung parliament.

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Yashwant Deshmukh analysed the trends in these by-elections, and extrapolated to the whole of the state. Congress 139 and BJP 53 in a house of 200 would be the result.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
What is the latest on elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura ?
Sitting over here, we hardly pay attention to what is happening in NE unless it is Cheeni log threatening us.
Will Tripura kick on left govt this time ?
PS: To expect BJP to win every state, election after election is not practical. They will win some, lose few and life will go on as long as the party replacing them is not another congoon wannabe. Actually it is good for democracy too.
That some of the local BJP leadership is mirror reflection of Congress is not lost on anyone.

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
The percentage of salaried people (i.e. people who have a PF account) who pay taxes, is the lowest in the G20. Not because they evade (they cant) but because you start paying tax only after a threshold of income. The overwhelming majority of salaried people do not even reach the lowest slab of income tax. I'm actually glad that there are relatively fewer concessions for the approx 1 crore salaried people that do pay tax (at an average rate lower than most countries).
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Good in Rajasthan. To make something you have to break something. Fatsos of BJP will hopefully wakeup now. Especially after disappointing 300 million middle class voters.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Just checked, it seems standard deduction comes with removal of transport allowance and medical re-reimbursement. So with extra 1% cess, anyone above 5 LPA will end up paying more tax.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
I think salaried middle class is 30 million. Nobody cares for such a small count spread across india.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Besides Rajastan is more a rural population, so the Gujarat story of lower than expected MSP playing out, can probably fixed by giving a good MSP this year.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
I dont fully understand why Gov had to wait for budget to announce this.
