The Great Indian Political Drama - 1 (Oct 2017 - Mar 2018)
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
I asked you in the context of Jallikattu ordinnace. I've not mentioned my perspective on things.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
So its not just SC. Was it hardhvardhan's NGO behind the petition in SC? Can we deduce that he (and so the bjp) is actively involved in this decision ?Karthik wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2017 12:21 pmDr. Harsh VardhanVerified account @drharshvardhan 24m24 minutes ago

Instead of spending thousands on crackers, lets buy food & sweets and share it with poor/underprivileged, make it an awesome #GreenDiwali
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
I think he is walking a thin line, he is being sarcastic while still trying to be in the good books of the SC. To state his NGO is behind it is a Big speculation, I can bet it is a secular NGO and Secular lawyers behind this. NO politician ever takes on the Judiciary in public that too the SC. It is more sarcasm out there.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Modi needs to bring an ordinance to allow sale of fire crackers. Also, a public statement that only festivals of one religion should not be targetted
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
No sir, it was BJP all the way. Ministry of Environment has singled out Diwali. There goes ordinance in dustbin.Aditya_V wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2017 12:36 pmI think he is walking a thin line, he is being sarcastic while still trying to be in the good books of the SC. Environment Minister Launches “Harit Diwali, Swasth Diwali” Campaign
It wasn't just a coincident that after the judgement Harshvardhan twitted in support. Sounds like he was expecting it.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
No Ordinance will come unless SC is going to expand this beyond Delhi especially to Tier 2 cities or other cities. Unless they see the groundswell asking for it it is not going to come. Lots of energy for too little political reward. Thats Delhi-NCR targeted rather than whole country
P.S I believe bursting crackers is integral to Deepavali/ Diwali and it is being targeted as part of an overall staretgy to Dhimmify Hindus.

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Genuine question: why isn't anyone asking Delhi govt (AAP) to bring in an ordinance? Don't they have jurisdiction on this fire cracker ban in Delhi? It's not like this is a law and order issue which comes under the Centre.

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
RSS-leader ((RSS = BJP) and RSS-Minister Dr Harshvardhan has been against firecrackers since ages. Dr Harshvarshan is anti-Hindu and anti-Hinduism, and thats why he supports ban imposed by SCjs
.
in year 2014, he has asked Lt Govornor of Delhi to impose ban on fire crackers !!

Enforce SC ban, ensure ‘silent Diwali’ in Delhi: Harsh Vardhan to Lt-Governor
.
Supreme Court, through a July, 2005, order had banned the bursting of firecrackers in residential areas.
.
16-oct-2014
.
Raising a cry for a silent Diwali in the national capital, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday urged Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung to ensure the execution of a Supreme Court order which bans the bursting of noise-generating firecrackers in residential areas. ....
.
--------------
.
Opposing firecrackers is personal choice - not anti-Hindu
.
But demanding and support ban on firecrackers is anti-Hindu
.
Modiji has never made any statement against firecrackers, But Modiji has never made even 1 minute video where is lighting even a fuljadi or wire since ages. And Modiji's own senior Minister publicly demands ban on firecrackers !!! So thats enough for me to decide which side Modiji is on on THIS issue.
.
----------------------------------------
.
.
Parliament can overrule SCjs' orders by printing law against SCjs' orders (eg Shah Bano case).
.
PM can introduce law to support firecrackers in loksabha as money bill. So permission of RS will NOT be needed.
.
So we should tweet @PmoIndia to print law in Parliament to cancel SCjs' orders. Not State assembly or CM.

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Bursting crackers is an integral part of Deepavali
I have lived abroad for many years where firecrackers were similarly banned , and would tell my children that they would not face such bans in India.
Oh the irony
But any way I don't live in Delhi , so thank God for small mercies
The courts in India must confine themselves to interpretation of the law and not meddle in day to day governance which is the domain of the executive branch

And in contrast , some Congress leaders seem to be speaking on a balanced note saying that people's sentiments on bursting crackers must be respected while limiting pollution caused by crackers
There was a lot of fun deriding the various bans last year as a sign oi f intolerance ( booze ban , beef ban , ) but no such outrage now when the SC takes the law into its own hands to ban crackers

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Fire crackers are not banned here in Eastern USA where 4th of July each year is celebrated as Independence Day. In PA there is a limit on the size or noise of the cracker but you can buy. Just across the border in Ohio there are huge stores of fire crackers (in countryside) where you can go and buy a huge box of fire crackers (or pick and choose what you like) as much as you like . You must sign an agreement and they check your background before giving it to you. The Gora store owners actually know that Indians celebrate Diwali and they usually have sales of buy 1 and get 1 or 2 free in October as this is their off season. They greet with Happy Diwali too! Check their website where they have Diwali greetings

^^ Let us not go overboard and score personal goals here. People just want equal law to all citizens and this needs to be conveyed to the ministry in no ambiguous terms so that they will not take steps that can be misconstrued as anti hindu.
Harshvardhan should be more matured in handling religious things. A particular religion is causing environmental harm is bad bad message especially from a bjp minister. GreenDiwali should be GreenIndia SwasthIndia. Harshvardhan is not some hindu minister or hindu police whose task is specifically to clean and regulate hindu festivals.

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
so what's stopping PIF* from filing a PIL claiming hurt religious sentiment ?
*really hate the term RW btw, hope people stop using that to self-identify PIF.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
because people supposed to stand by hindu sentiments are supporting the ban.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
+1
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
I just wish Yogi A speaks in his style on this subject.
C'mon YA speak and put your weight behind this. Your loyalty to BJP be damn.I asked them to pass an order banning the use of loudspeakers at all places and ensure the order is implemented everywhere. But when the officers expressed their inability to implement the order at all religious places, I told them not to interfere with Kanwar yatra too

Thanks for the reply, Rahul Mehta. But I don't think it's so simple. Pls see the case mentioned in this article:
http://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/ ... 47274.html
Briefly, last year SC had told UP ex-CMs that they needed to vacate govt bungalows within 2 months. So the UP govt (Akhilesh) got a bill in UP assembly passed basically circumventing this SC ruling. Now someone has challenged this law, but as of now SC has not held this law to be illegal or that UP assembly does not have the right to pass such a law. In fact, the next hearing is tomorrow (10 Oct). Will be interesting to see what happens.
So at least on the basis of this case so far, state assemblies can pass laws which negate SC rulings.
Need to put AAP on the spot, by asking them if they are willing to pass a law negating SC cracker ban in Delhi NCR. At least they can pass a law for the Delhi part of NCR and leave out parts in Haryana and UP.

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Another interesting note. Zee News who is recently being a puppet of BJP is going all out in support of the ban.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
And you are suggesting AAP should win the sentimental battle, and not BJP? What if they really do that and win and BJP did not even try? Or what if they initiate first and project as if they pressurize BJP to pass ordinance? Wait.. is this already happening?
Can't imagine Diwali without crackers: AAP
This is coming at the same time harshvardhan supporting the ban.The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday said it too was worried about pollution in Delhi but said it was not in favour of banning firecrackers during Diwali.
AAP leader Ashutosh was responding to a Supreme Court ban on the sale of crackers in Delhi and NCR till November 1.
Ashutosh said setting off fire-crackers during Diwali was part of "our culture".
He said while they respect the Supreme Court and its decision, it should have come up with a decision on how to check pollution rather than banning the sale of crackers.
"Diwali without crackers is incomplete. We can't even think about it," he said.
'No firecrackers for Delhi-NCR': Chetan Bhagat differs with SC, says 'only guts to do this for Hindu festivals'
Ashutosh refused to say if the AAP will go to court against the Supreme Court decision.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
cannot the people of delhi buy it from nearby places in UP and Haryana ?
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
If congress or AAP says it'd be neutral to everyone, not undermine hinduism and hindu causes, I'd vote for them and ask others to do the same. Con or AAP just want to win, if we make a deal on the above terms, then no issue in voting for them I guess.
Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Re Abhijit's post above:
AAP is only all talk. They can make these statements but no way are they going to bring in an ordinance / bill on this. If they are really against this SC ruling, they need to put money where their mouth by actually bringing an ordinance.

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
At least they have come out and made the official statement right on the day of judgement. So far no official statement from BJP, except for those (personal I guess) tweets from harshvardhan.James wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2017 3:47 pmRe Abhijit's post above:

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
This is the beginning folks. All our metros are polluted, who wants to bet next year Deepavali will be banned in all cities next year? (and yes, a ban on firecrackers during Deepavali is a ban on Deepavali itself).
If the Modi govt policy (by collective responsibility principle, one union minister publicly articulating a policy means it is the collective stance of the GoI executive) on this is not reversed, will lose quite a few votes. This, IMHO, is a massive self goal, if the env ministry was involved in the petition (per this article, the Central pollution control board was supporting the petition to ban firecrackers).
Time for BJP to have some competition.
