I do not recall even looking at the content of the love and marriage thread. It was naturally attractive to any young person but IMO for BRF it was just a distraction. That thread and other threads that were 'private" probably attracted thousands of people who could speak their hearts to online friends and their interest in military and strat issues was peripheral. This forum could replace that function - but people will have to learn to discuss some things out in the open - because IMO openness radiates any gyan that may appear and attract like minded people.

One thing that I think should be done (to make it easier for mods) is to ruthlessly expunge flamewar posts, flamebait, trolling etc. Any one who says what happened to my post needs to be told "Balls". JMT

One thing to remember is that no matter how much anyone howls and thrashes about regarding freedom of expression - ultimately only Facebook and Twitter (and Whatsapp) are relatively unmoderated. All forums such as this will inevitable HAVE TO force ALL members to conform by some rules that are arrived at by mod consensus.
Just adding - people regularly have criminal cases filed against them(and even a few weeks jail stay) over content posted on FB and Twitter. Pages are blocked by FB "reports" and IDs are banned pretty regularly.
FOE is a red herring.

Looks like we have two options

1) Keep group closed and that means it will die slowly
2) Throw more bodies at moderation who can keep things on track

Offbeat idea, and i'll curse myself for suggesting if it actually gets adopted (probably beg off on the grounds of "seniliority").

- rotate the moderation, members have to all take turns moderating (not necessarily individually, but could be part of a team of moderators).
- have super-moderators with bredator powers over lowly moderators and everyone else, to intervene if and when needed.

My rationale: over countless years on brf, and through the entire lifetime of the burqa forum, I have become convinced that our besetting sin is not lack of intellect or knowledge or passion or general skills, but (at least insofar as politics are concerned) the inability to keep the long-term perspective in view, and avoid dissipating our energies in gaining quick, transient "victories". The gratuitous aggression seen on the political threads is emblematic of this defect, a reflection on the small stage of the forum, of our weakness as fighters.

A forum like this should play a part in cultivating the necessary character traits in young people, for the cause to prevail in the end. One phrase I would choose to describe these traits as a whole is "taking responsibility." I think being assigned a responsible task like moderation will help with the cultivation.

Well boys, people and posts stepping out of line will get disappeared without explanation. That includes people who use the Report Post function to snipe at others without cause and indulge in cat fights. Moderators are not your nannies and if you soil your bath water, they will likely throw the baby out with it. That's the price members will pay for this forum being open and the fact that the forum owner Dileep is a great guy IRL whose hospitality should never be abused.

And I am surprised to see certain members who were openly disdainful of GDF signing up here. You are all welcome but please don't bring in the same disdainful attitude here. Don't come in harbouring an agenda to make this forum "what you would have wanted GDF to be like". That will be as successful as trying to marry someone with the intention of "improving them". Let the forum organically find its character. If you don't like what you see, you are welcome to leave without making a big fuss about it. Otherwise the above applies to you too.

i hope the mods with the inside info on what went on in BRF have a plan sorted out to prevent the same tricks used against BRF, which i bet were many, from being used on this forum. otherwise its only a matter of time before we have the same stuff being pulled here as well and i dont think dileep mk2 will arrive to save GDF again.

KLnmurthy, apart from a few some minor nitpicks, overall a good post.

BRF had members who made brilliant contributions towards the dharmic/Indic causes over the years, but there is a tendency of a 'friendly fire" i.e. blue on blue (arises sometimes cause of ego hassles?) that crop up occasionally. So I agree when you say "necessary character traits in young (my note: in fact, would go a step further and say....of all ages) people, for the cause to prevail in the end". After all, in our fight for the dharmic causes, we should remember most of us are, in fact, batting for the same side.

Raja, though you would agree also when I say we wouldn't want a forum with a monolithic thinking and members just kowtowing to the Mods line....dissent (constructive criticism) makes any organisation also grow organically.

I am back after a long time. Somehow lost track of things in this forum. By the way, we finalised who are the moderators here now?

Mods are myself, Singha and Rahul M.
However, we tend to moderate as less as possible and expect the posters to moderate themselves.

Good. Someone messaged me that I am also being considered. Since I am not active here, it may be a problem. Came here after a long time and seen very good posts on GST etc. Happy that we now have a new adda.

Anything Burkha here like BRF's GDF group?

Total transparency. Only burqua is your forum handle. :rotfl:

is the forum shutting down or is it just a reminder to make payments

I am retiring from the ownership. I posted the intention first on the moderator forum. No response. Then I sent email to the moderators. One person responded, but didn't want to take over.

Next step is public announcement on the title. Unless some known BRF/BGR person comes forward to take over, I will shut down the forum first, and then will close the domain itself.

Money is NOT the issue.
