Re: Forum Technical Issues
For all the requests and suggestions:
This forum runs on phpBB, with the default 'prosilver' theme. I think most people like the theme (that is why it is default). If any change needed, please do the following:
1. Identify a phpBB theme that you like. Simply asking for this red that blue isn't going to work. Run a dry run test or demo of the theme somewhere, so that people can see it.
2. Run a poll here, with a link to the dry run/demo. Get a resolution.
3. Give us a link to the theme package. We will install the same.
If you want to make a logo, by all means do. It is 149 X 52 pixels GIF with transparent background. We can use it if everyone likes it.
Youtube embedding will be done soon. If you really know how to do it, let us know and we can do it faster. Otherwise, we will have to wait at least till 14th, since I will be very busy till then. Shravan may be able to help if he is available, but I believe he is more busy than me. Obviously, we can't let others background access to the server, so it is either of us who will have to do the actual installation.
Any other features, please find the phpBB extension, do a test, verify and then post here with the information.
We are NOT planning to do any arbitrary customization, unless someone want to do it themselves and only require help installing the extension/mod.
We will only address 'problems and issues' that causes major inconveniences for the useful purpose of the forum. We don't 'serve'. we 'share'

Re: Forum Technical Issues
Call it a BRF Hangover or whatever, but in BRF, a page used to get turned over after 40 posts while here on BGF it is happening every 20 posts. While there is nothing wrong in it, however, it does lead to a large number of pages getting created on threads very rapidly, esp on fast moving threads.
I wonder if something can be done about this!

Saar
Please to add this theme
My eyes need high contrast themes. And this is more subtle ( in more ways than one )

Re: Forum Technical Issues
Request that member ip be logged with memberlist. This will help mods n owner in filtering based on geography if needed. Phpbb has a mod for this. https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... #p13209165.
Re: Forum Technical Issues
It will be for mod only! It will simply add ip used at time of registration to the other details. It is already possible to check ip from http access log but involves tidious time matching etc. This will be good information to have for mods from security point of view.

Re: Forum Technical Issues
Can we have defence discussions here or not ? If yes, should we wait for forum guidelines to be published ?

Re: Forum Technical Issues
We sure can have defense discussions here, no problem. But, there are a few courtesy requirements:
1. Do not criticize BRF, any user or post thereof.
2. Credit appropriately if cross posting.
3. Do not spill over discussion here from BRF, or vice versa.

Re: Forum Technical Issues
We may or may not know the reason for BRF shutdown. What is in here that will avoid that fate?
Re: Forum Technical Issues
If we can have more of these also pls: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/styles/smilies-13
Re: Forum Technical Issues
I do not claim to have insider knowledge and I rarely visited GDF but folks like me were whining a lot about lack of moderation in the military thread and I think the reason was admin overload from GDF. Ultimately - despite its popularity GDF on BRF was only an add-on to the mil/strat/eco parts - but which went crazy popular.
Re: Forum Technical Issues
I agree with shiv ji. I see some people now responding who looks Ks like are in active ‘service’. Their condition could be to do away with political postings lest their service gets entangled with that.

Re: Forum Technical Issues
Dileep maashe, this is still not working. I am using Chrome with no blocker of any kind. The embedded video section comes up blank.
Edit: I have to allow Chrome to "Load scripts from unsafe sites" option and I get a nice red "Not Secure" flag on the address bar. Looks like the embed code uses HTTP whereas the site uses HTTPS
