Another attempt to show ISI-TSPA in good light by Bhaiwood. There is a blatant attempt to show TSPA & ISI as normal patriotic agencies of a normal country, just like our RAW and Indian Army.

beautiful song composed by SEL for Raazi. Gulzar has used poetry of Alama Iqbal one of three proponents of 2 nation theory.

This movie is based on real story according to this news from

http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp ... 446864.ece

Harinder Sikka speaks to SANGEETA BAROOAH PISHAROTY about his debut novel based on the real-life story of an Indian Kashmiri spy

It was during his disillusionment with patriotism, in the thick of the Kargil conflict, that he stumbled upon her existence. He named her Sehmat Khan, to allow her to remain in anonymity, and to share her unusual life with readers.

Harinder S. Sikka’s debut novel, “Calling Sehmat”, recently brought out by Konark Publishers, is about an Indian Kashmiri undercover agent operating in Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Sikka, a former Indian Navy officer, elaborates how he found her story. He went to Kargil during the 1999 war to write media articles on the Army’s alleged intelligence failure there. “I was very angry then and even questioned the patriotism of certain people in the Intelligence Department. There, during one such discussion, an Army officer told me that not everyone is the same. I was not too convinced about it upon which he gave the example of his mother, much to my surprise. She married a Pakistani Army officer to provide India with classified information during the 1971 war. She was a Kashmiri Muslim.”

In conversation at a New Delhi hotel, Sikka, now Director, Corporate Affairs, Nicholas Piramal, says, “Kargil passed by but I often thought about the daring act of this woman undercover who returned to the country, pregnant with the child of her Pakistani husband, and bore the Indian Army a good officer.” A lot of effort later, Sikka met her at her house in Maler Kotla, in Punjab. “But she would not speak much. Slowly, she opened up but I still don’t know how she managed to take out such secret information from Pakistani intelligence. All the information she passed on from there matched with the Indian intelligence report here,” he states, adding, “Though I found out that she used to tutor General Yahya Khan’s grandchildren.”

The most important information provided by Sehmat was Pakistan’s plan to sink INS Viraat. “Our Government could save its biggest pride on the sea only because of her.”

The author says it took him eight years to fictionalise her story and knit everything into a cohesive narrative. “It was important to fictionalise it as it would have been dangerous for her family.” Her son is out of the Army now, and Sehmat is no more, Sikka adds.
The gaps

But certain things are still with him. “I am yet to fathom how Sehmat’s father, a rich businessman in Kashmir then, could push his daughter to do such a dangerous thing. It was the ultimate test of patriotism for the family. Despite being an ex-soldier myself, I feel proud to admit that I learnt the real meaning of patriotism from her story.” She was meant to be just a facilitator for the Indian Intelligence, but she went far ahead of it, he states. In return for her service to the nation, all she wanted was to unfurl the Indian tricolour at her house. “Till her death, she did it, unofficially.”

Sikka underlines that the book “is also an attempt to highlight one of the finest examples of extreme loyalty of the Kashmiri people towards India.”

As a tribute to her, he plans to formally launch the book next week aboard INS Viraat, now docked at Mumbai yard.

-streamline Kashmiri Muslims as faithful to India who are being seen as stone pelters
-pk are sufferer of terrorism as much as we are type narrative peddling...
but i yet have to see (muft) version of film...not going to see in hall..

notice that others who came along with alia dumbo are left behind where as alia is getting good scripts and films one after another.

^^^ Guys, my wife was watching and caught glimpse of this movie. To be honest, it seemed good in patches, but became typical Bollywood crap as the movie progressed and I gave up.

On another, for this who are in tune with this Cannes BS, as usual I see delusional headlines on DDM that Deepika storms the red carpet, Aiswarya did this or that, and of course they included their Paki heroes too. But are these Bollytards even noticed at the festival by the white media?

RW will never will be able to catch up with lal jhanda tricks...Gulzaar has used poetry of Alama Iqbal in Aye Watan song. In film this is being sung by pakistani children for their country and by Alia for India at the same . This is win win ...tomorrow when national award for film goes to team...Gulzar will disclose how Alama Iqbaal still binds India & Pakistan together.

Alama Iqbal was pro India till 1904 but a completely transformed man after he visited UK.
He returned and asked for Pakistan, had a global Islamic view.

The song was sung in Pak. Please don't make issues out of non-issues. Irrespective of ideology there are people of different kinds. Have you seen "Schindler's list"?

Ofcourse, India has many patriotic Muslims who love their country more than a lot of Hindus. But % wise, they are negligible. Vast majority of Indian Muslims are Muslims first, Indians later. They show token patriotism but detest any kind of nationalistic symbols because that conflicts with their primary Islamic identity which is strictly enforced by the friendly neighbourhood Maulanas. Their outlook is extremely Ummah centered - Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Saudi - they matter more than another Indian state.

At best, they live their lives their own way unless you 'needle them' with public show of kufr-ness (like for example, taking a Ram Yatra through their mohalla). At worst, they will wage war against you & me.

That lecture was unnecessary. I have been around much longer than you. I suggest you guys see the film to find out how spies work and risk their lives just out of patriotism. Very different from keyboard warriors. Except the fact that the girl is Muslim that too Kashmiri there is no Hindu-Muslim or Aman-ki-Asha in the film.

Can’t comment on the movie, I probably won’t see it anyway.

It is true, Iqbal, though gifted was very much a pro-Pak man. Descended from Kashmiri Pandits he nevertheless was anti-Hindu in the end. If you believe Tarek Fatah he was particularly pissed off when Tagore got the Nobel and he didn’t. Maybe that turned him.

Gulzar though born Sampooran Singh is a die-hard Urduphile. He is a good poet and writer too but his work reflects his very strong Islamic leanings. Anyone remembers the lyrics to Chhaiyya- chhaiyya? Full of praise for Urdu and Islam - “Taveez bana ke pehnu use aayat ki tarah mil jaaye kahin”. And then. “Mera magma wahi mera kalma wahi.....”

You wonder why a Hindu man would be singing in high Urdu and that too in awe of Islamic icons. Granted it was a movie and yet the hero does not speak Urdu anywhere else in the movie. Many of his other songs and poetry in general is again biased towards Urdu and Islamic motifs.

Thus it may not be a surprise if his daughter has the same affection for Urdu and Islam.

This may have nothing to do with her ability to be fair to the Indian and specifically Hindu cause but given that she has worked extensively with Vishal Bhardwaj who is another person I am not fond of. He thinks of Gulzar as his mentor so it all comes around in the end.

another common link in all of them is lal jhanda...they are all urban naxals (Gulzar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Meghna ulzar etc). Communist politics at least in India goes hand in hand with Islam (WB, Kerala).
Some how countries who gave birth to lal jhanda ideology like China & Russia hate Islam.

Gulzar was born Sikh in pre-partition Pak Punjab. The lingua franca of the elite from the region then was Urdu. His poetry leans towards Islamic culture. Rakhi OTOH was a Bengali Hindu refugee from East Pakistan. Don't know about her leanings. They are separated for long.

Sampooran Singh Kalra aka Gulzar was born in british india. At that time everybody (including my parents and their siblings) learned to read/write in Urdu/Farsi till at least 5th Grade. I guess Gulzar was more fascinated with Urdu.

my understanding is he tried with Hindi poetry initially in his true name but didn't get success he returned with heavy urdu dose and a changed name and started getting jobs. Can't clearly recall where but I did read this.

That is because they did not have Islam shoved down their throats for a thousand years and when it started to happen, learnt very quickly that it is ultimately a 'Borg' phenomenon.

Our own Pinkos have a romantic notion that it is a desirable ideal and certainly better than the yeevil Yindoo philosophy. Desperate to be considered more suave and sophisticated than their peers, they easily adopt a culture that is fundamentally alien to a Dharmic society. Not that it bothers them a bit.

So did my family. My grandfather was a lawyer and almost never wrote anything in Hindi. His letters to my father were in Urdu, which my father read out to us. My father himself could read and write Urdu but was a die-hard patriot and a Hindu till the end.

IMO, Urdu is more expressive and easier when it comes to writing songs for Hindi Movies. Like Hindi, I claim complete ownership of Urdu too as this too is a Hindustani language. But like someone pointed out, Urdu has Islamic leanings and most of the analogy is driven from Islam.

Urdu is used in Hindi songs because the majority of Bollywood songwriters of the 'golden era' wrote in Urdu and/or were muslims themselves. Yet there are beautiful songs in Hindi too, for example the national poet Pradeep's works. In the end very few songs have totally Urdu or 'shuddh' Hindi lyrics.

However, in my lifetime I am seeing a big change. There is an increasing trend for 'kavi-sammelans' to have poetry in pure Hindi whereas in the past you would hear both Urdu and Hindi on the same stage. If you've ever heard the amazing Kavita Tiwari you would be blown away by her use of pure Hindi/sanskrit words that to my ears sound just as beautiful if not more so than anything I've heard in Urdu - and just as difficult to understand fully :)

I speak Hindi very well and Urdu too, but cannot understand classic Urdu shayari because it is mostly derived from Farsi. That is what, IMHO does not make it an 'Indian' language. It's script and source vocabulary is not based on any 'native' Indian language. Said to be a mixture of Persian, Arabic and Turkish, there is some controversy even in Pakistan about where Urdu comes from, and there are lengthy articles in the media discussing its sources, some going on to say that most of the words come from 'Indo-Aryan' languages of 'Vedic times'. This of course suggests an agenda of a different nature :)
