Seven Congress-JD(S) Alliance MLAs Leave Eagleton Resort, ‘Health Reasons’ Cited For Departure (swarajya)

Heh. Can't blame them. Lack of 'moral fibre' in Eagleton's diet can lead to health complications, am told...
Local Kannada news sources are reporting that seven MLAs belonging to the Congress-JD(S) combine have left the Eagleton resort where they were lodged to ensure that they do not support the BJP.

News9, which earlier yesterday (16 May) broke the news of Governor’s invite to the B S Yeddyurappa to take oath as the state’s 23rd Chief Minister (CM), has reported that a Congress MLA, Rajashekhar Patil, left the resort citing ‘health reasons’.

News Flash: Police protection withdrawn from Eagleton resorts (where INC MLAs are camping) and now also from Bangalore's Shantala Hotel where JDS MLAs are staying.

Yeddy acting with speed and purpose, seems like.

P.S. from twitter. TIFWIW.

Four IPS officers gets transferred after Yeddy takes charges
1. Bengaluru Central DCP - Devaraj (posted in from Bidar)
2. State Intelligence Addl.DGP - Amit Kumar Pandey
3. State Intelligence D.I.G - Sandip Patil
4. Bangalore VACB DCP - Girish

Looks like the previous government had deputed police men from the "intelligence"/special branch wing to have a watch on Eagleton resorts and its MLA occupants. In news clippings which show one of the MLA leaving stating "urgent matters to be solved", he is stopped by plainclothes police officers, who 99% would be from the "intelligence"/special branch. With the #2 & #3 from the above list taking charge, such kind of "police protection" would be the first to get pulled out.

PS: This reminded me of a scene in the movie "God Father". Precinct Captain Mark McCluskey of NYPD pulling out the police protection given for Don Corleone in his hospital bed ;).

@DeshGujarat says --- Karnataka: Chief Minister BSY govt withdraws police security from privately owned Eagleton resort where Congress has kept its MLAs

--------

@DeshGujarat is run by rss members. Nevertheless, I dont know whether this removal of police protection is true or false. If true, this is really really stooping low on part of Sri Modiji (because Yediyurappa order = Modiji's order)

I really dont mind buying / selling MLAs. All MLAs are corrupt and so hell if corrupt congress / jds / aap lose and helll if corrupt rss wins. And so what if some corrupt congress/aap/jds MLAs task cash from rss and backstab congress/jds/aap and join rss !! GTH is what I will tell congress/jds.

But removing police protection means - Modiji is giving a warning to all congress/jds MLAs that that now criminals are going to visit you !!!

So if Modiji has withdrawn police protection on Eagleton resort, then it means that Modiji is giving a threat to congress/jds MLAs that "RAW CRIMINAL force will be used against you" . So if police protection has been withdrawn, and its really stooping very low on part of Modiji and rss-workers.

I for one love it! This is exactly what BJP should become - ruthless and a proper counter point to the Congi dirty tricks department.

There are clear cut rules on who gets police "protection". These MLAs holed up in Eagleton are not ministers or holding any official appointments. Why should they officially be given any police protection? Have they given any official requests for police protection?

What has happened in Eagleton Resort was that intelligence wing police men were posted in the resort to keep an unauthorised watch on the MLAs in the resort. It is this "unauthorised watch" which has got pulled out. Let Congress arrange for their own goondas to give "protection". In case of shortage of men perhaps they can try getting PFI/CPI(M) cadre from Kerala (Red Volunteers and all that) :D.

Love this fighting spirit from Amit shah. Important to let opposition know that if they can play the “we stand separately before elections so we don’t have to defend congress, but we’ll gat back in bed post elections”...then bjp would have no qualms in breaking parties up.

I think BJP adopted wrong strategy in Karnataka. They should have let JD(s) form the Govt with Congi support. This would have created resentment in JD(s) for MLAs not getting ministerial portfolio. BJP could then use them to split the JD(s) , merge the faction with BJP and then staked the claim. It would have taken longer but would have provided stability.

But may be AS knows more and already has a plan to break JD(s).

^^ I have to agree with you.

Plus with 2019 so close, better let JDS and Congress mess up.. which they inevitably will. Additionally, people will be sympathetic to BJP because they will be seen as not being able to form government even with most legislators.

"Mess up" means using KA as an ATM to fight 2019. BJP did the right thing by doing whatever it could to block off access to $$ for Cong system before 2019. It now controls 21 out of 29 states, and INC controls two. "Wait for them to mess up" is a naive simplistic argument that doesn't account for KA being the primary source of INC cash as the only large state it ruled. Now all it has left are Punjab and what else - Mizoram ?

I think it is important to shutdown the Congress's ATM before GE 2019. JD(S) & congis coming to power for even a short time would have meant that they get a chance to replenish their coffers ahead of 2019. Happy to see BJP being ruthless here. Does anyone have any doubt about how the congis would have acted if the tables were turned?

Within one year is still honeymoon period. Not enough time to wait for the mess ups. If Yeddy loses no confidence vote, it doesn't change anything on the ground.

IMO its better to break the congress than jds (at least in theory). It will be advantageous to deal with multiple regional (mostly cast based hereditary) parties rather a single national opposition, with lutyens at the top. Congress mukt bharat will only happen when they are removed from both power and opposition space.

In Karnataka, TDP n Chandrababu Naidu have used all tactics to dissuade Telugu voters from supporting BJP. But in Hyderabad Karnataka where most Telugus live, BJP has increased its tally from 6 to 20+. People have rejected CBN’s politics. Our Southward March has begun.
Yes indeed, the antics of "Chandranna" have entirely failed. It is good that this snake has left NDA - hopefully forever, unless he comes crawling back.

Similarly, didn't Shiva Sena contest some 50 seats in "Mumbai Karnataka" area ? Anyone got their deposit back ? It seems like Uddhav did not learn much from losing all deposits in Gujarat 2017.
But Hyderabad-Karnataka is Telangana side, Does Ram Madhav think TDP is strong in Telangana to influence Telugus?
That argument may be okay if you talk about Bellary areas.

Karnataka: Flights grounded, Congress, JD(S) bus MLAs out of state
BENGALURU: Congress and JD(S) were forced to bus their newly elected MLAs to destinations in neighbouring states late on Thursday after charter flights that were scheduled to fly them out from HAL Airport were denied permission to take off.
Congress MLAs alleged the Director General of Civil Aviation sent out “unofficial” word to the airport to ground the planes. “DGCA is an autonomous body which cannot be questioned. By manoeuvring resources at its disposal, BJP has caged us in the state without explaining why the planes are not being allowed to take off,” said an MLA.

However, a senior aviation ministry official denied the charge. “DGCA permission is not required for charter operations within India. Saying the aviation authorities did not allow the flight to operate is not correct,” he said. JD(S) MLC Ramesh Babu attacked the Centre and the PM for “misusing” government machinery.

Congress sources claimed that the MLAs had to be taken out of Karnataka after authorities earlier in the day removed the security cover to Eagleton Resort in Bidadi, 30km from Bengaluru, where the legislators had been corralled since Wednesday evening.

Congress’ D K Shivakumar, an experienced hand in resort politics, had been tasked with the responsibility of keeping the flock together. The combine’s think-tank had four people managing the group, the other three being Shamanur Shivashankarappa (mandated with keeping the Lingayat MLAs within the fold), B Z Zameer Ahmed and Satish Jarkiholi. “With flights being grounded and security cover withdrawn, there is literally no cover for us MLAs who are a target for the BJP. This is like straight out of the movies,” said a Congress legislator.

In Kochi, 100 rooms have been booked in Crowne Plaza and Brunton Boatyard for the Congress leaders.

Incidentally, on Tuesday, soon after the verdict, the tourism department of Left-ruled Kerala had tweeted: “After the rough and tumble of the #KarnatakaVerdict, we invite all the MLAs to unwind at the safe & beautiful resorts of God’s Own Country.”

Earlier, the mood inside Eagleton and Shangrila remained tense throughout Thursday. The resort was in the news in 2017 when Gujarat Congress MLAs camped there as Congress feared defection of its members ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections.

The camaraderie between Congress and JD(S) leaders was visible at the protest site in Vidhana Soudha with senior leaders of the two parties exchanging pleasantries. Sources said Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia spoke to Deve Gowda during the day.
