I think that the days of taking India for granted or trying to bully Modi are long gone.

If they try, they will get the horns, like the britshits found out the hard way, just last week...

WHO said yesterday that they can not "cut corners" to approve India's Covaxin.

Today, India has delayed the supplies of vaccines to the WHO backed COVAX.

India delays COVID-19 vaccine supplies to WHO-backed COVAX, sources say

NEW DELHI, Oct 19 (Reuters) - India has delayed committing supplies of vaccine to the COVAX global sharing effort, two sources told Reuters on Tuesday, a day after one of its key backers, the WHO, said the agency could not "cut corners" to approve a domestically developed vaccine.

The world's biggest vaccine maker resumed exports of COVID-19 doses this month for the first time since April. It has sent about 4 million to countries such as neighboring Bangladesh and Iran, but none to COVAX. read more

Delayed supplies to COVAX could disrupt inoculation drives in many African nations that rely on it for vaccines.

On Monday, in the run-up to an Oct. 26 meeting on Covaxin, India's first domestically developed COVID-19 vaccine, the World Health Organization (WHO) said it could not "cut corners" in the approval decision.

One of the sources said it was "frustrating" that India had yet to confirm any supply to COVAX, despite a promise by the health minister last month to meet the commitment to COVAX and others during the quarter to December.

The sources, who have been briefed on the export talks, declined to be identified as they were not authorised to speak on the subject.

"We are still waiting for confirmation on when and how many doses we can expect when exports do resume, and are not aware of any specific delay," COVAX co-lead GAVI, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, said in an email.

"Indian vaccines have a powerful role to play" in ending the pandemic, it added.

India's health ministry, WHO and the Serum Institute of India (SII), which is the world's biggest maker of vaccines, did not respond to requests for comment.

SII, contracted to supply hundreds of millions of doses of a version of the AstraZeneca (AZN.L) vaccine to COVAX and countries such as Bangladesh, has more than tripled its output of the vaccine since April, to reach 220 million doses a month.

Indian government officials have said they are confident the WHO will soon approve emergency use of Covaxin, which accounts for 11% of the 990 million doses India has injected, with the rest mostly from AstraZeneca.

A few weeks ago, Adar Poonawalla, the chief executive of SII, told the Telegraph newspaper that the company would resume exports to COVAX in October.

"Initially these supplies will be small, but by January 2022, once we have satisfied domestic demands ... we will see large volumes go to COVAX," he added. read more

Before India halted overseas vaccine shipments in April to fill domestic demand, it donated or sold more than 66 million COVID-19 doses, including Covaxin.

The "farmers" are using the courts to gain entry into the heart of dilli where they will create mayhem on a much larger scale and finally blame it on the govt for "provoking" them

the laws have been passed by the parliament and it is well within their purview to do so.

“The Law Is Already Laid Down, Won't Lay It Down Again And Again”: SC Reiterates Farmers Can't Block Roads Indefinitely

Snapshot
The apex court said that public roads could not be blocked to hamper free movement, a fundamental right given by the Constitution to the people

The Supreme Court on Thursday reiterated its judgement in the Shaheen Bagh protests case that the right to protest cannot obliterate the fundamental right to free movement of the public while hearing the case related to the farmers' protests.

A bench led by Justice S K Kaul was hearing a slew of petitions filed by private citizens aggrieved by the farm law protesters blocking national highways. The farm protesters have appealed the Supreme Court to direct the government to allow them entry in the Ram Lila Maidan and Jantar Mantar

The situation became heated during the physical hearing as both the sides — the government and the farmers — got into a verbal altercation over who was responsible for the nearly two-year blockade. The farmers' side was represented by senior advocate Dushyant Dave and advocate Prashant Bhushan, while Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta was representing the government of Haryana.

The apex court said that public roads could not be blocked so as to hamper free movement, a fundamental right given by the Constitution to the people. The court acknowledged that “there is a problem with movement, we are not going to accept there is no problem”.

The court noted that it had laid down the law in the Shaheen Bagh protests case that the right to protest should not hamper the right to movement of the public. Justice Kaul observed, “The law is laid down. There is no reason for the SC to lay down the law again and again...”

A solution should be found for the impasse between farmers and the government, the court said.

“The solution is allow us to agitate at Jantar Mantar,” Dave said. He alleged that the roads were deliberately blocked to turn public sentiments against the farmers, adding that the latter should be allowed to enter the Ram Lila Maidan and Jantar Mantar to continue their protests against the agricultural laws.

Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta reminded the court about the Red Fort violence in January that left several hundreds injured and others killed.

Dave said that the right to protest was a fundamental right, and the roads were blocked by the police. "The government’s view on violence by protesters seemed to be skewed," he said. He asked why farmers were not being allowed at Jantar Mantar when Tuesday saw massive protests organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the area over the attack on Hindus in Bangladesh during Durga Puja.

Mehta submitted, “Last time they came, it became a serious issue... something much more than a serious issue”. He insinuated that “sometimes it is felt the farmers’ agitation is not for the cause but for something else...”

Dave retorted that the farmers felt the same way about the government’s agricultural laws. “We also feel that the farm laws are not for the farmers but for something else... If you are going to make allegations against the farmers, we will make allegations against you.” He repeated that the only solution to the problem would be to allow farmers’ entry to the Ram Lila Maidan.

The court issued notice on new petitions filed by other private citizens seeking the removal of the blockades. The bench posted the hearing for 7 December.

Watch video of Sambit Patra telling the congis some bitter home truths about what their actual role and minuscule was in the freedom struggle

this is a POV not quite expressed like this before.

Where and where did Congress fight for independence?? A party formed by a Brit Babu fought them?? Smiling face with open mouth and cold sweat Sitting on dharna’s and asking them to quit India doesn’t get you independence. Taking credit for which millions sacrificed their lives is really pathetic and that’s what they do.

Guys,

all of you must have watched India Paki T-20 cricket match. It was disappointing and humiliating to see India lose so badly. But at the end of the day, its OK, I think today at least, Paki terrorists looked much better team in all department, batting and bowling. And it did not help that Kohli lost the toss. Anyway, lets hope our boys do well in the rest of the tournament.

But when I read the news papers, I was aghast at the following. Apparently, Indian team took to the knees prior to the start of the match. When I saw the headline, I thought wow, Indian team is showing solidarity with the victims of Paki terror and thats what they were protesting about. But instead, what they were protesting was about black lives matter. I am not the one to trivialize white cops killing of blacks in US, black lives indeed do matter, but for India, should it not be Indian lives matter as much? This taking to the knees for BLM is the ultimate Wokeness. Going along with some liberal western trend ignoring your own travails. Its like your house is on fire, but instead of working to save your own home and family, you rush to save the neighbor's home

CRamS, I couldn't have said it any better. WTH does the Indian cricket team need to take a stand with regard to the black lives movement when we have a rabid the surge in Islamic Jihadi terrorism in Kashmir And against Hindus in Bangladesh as well. Not to mention the rising attacks by khalistani terrorists on innocent Dalits.

If they couldn't take a stand because of “secular” issues, at least and with those affected by the flood violence in Uttarakhand.
The only moral boost this would have been for would be the West Indian cricket team, as no African-American really cares to Hoots about cricket.
Unfortunately From what I read, Indo Carribeans suffer from the same prejudice often from their own teammates and countrymen leading to much conversion among them as well.

So in the end chalk it up to another idiotic gesture by the management team of the BCCI. And what a match. They got hammered by 10 wickets.
No doubt the Paki psyche and commentary will be all about the “Tauqat of the Momin” leading to their first ever win over India.
Forget about the innumerable times that Pakistan has lost to India previously. All forgotten. This may be another rallying cry for jihadists to launch various strikes in intensity in not only Kashmir but in Punjab as well.

On another note, Some of those Khalistani twits, recently published a khalistani map taking over much of Northern India. Even areas with areas where Sikhs only constitute only 0.5 -0.9% of the population. Nothing of Paki Punjab and of course, Nankana Sahib in Pakistan reverently left out of course.

Heads should roll other top management itself and that includes both Kohli and Shastri who is Bill engineering debacles like this for the last year.

In the greater game, a series of plans need to be thought of to be placed not just to strike the terrorists across the border but multiple psychological attacks to the strength of the “Momin”.

For the pakis, a cricket match against India is always a ‘jihad’ The India-paki match started with ‘taking the knee’ and ended disastrously with ‘kufr toot gaya’. We went down on our knees and forgot to stand up and fight. It wasn’t cricket.

The Indian cricket team failed to show solidarity with crimes against humanity far closer to home, like Hindus being persecuted in beediland, instead stooopidly choosing to highlight a faultline that neither enthuses nor interests anyone in India and is essentially an empty gesture aimed at pleasing some white racist pseudo seculars who have no skin in the BLM and the critical race narrative and it only helps further the white racist agenda that has, for centuries, always benefitted them with entitled and liberal privileges.

Kneeling’ is a phenomenon that african amerikis have followed since the civil rights movement to show an inherent lack of respect for the national anthem and the flag of the US, and so, why would India or the stooopide BCCI even need to go there. Especially when India enforces a law prohibiting disrespect to the Indian flag and the anthem

And if the south african team also did this sickular drama, then the orders to do this very stooopide thing came directly from the ICC or at the very least had the benign blessings of the ICC.

Why did the BCCI fall into this cesspool of a political trap, especially when the pakis refused to kneel

Also, let's see how many other teams playing this tournament kneel

Namaz isn’t an anti-Hindu act. Time for every Indian to defend Islam

Namaz isn’t an anti-Hindu act. Time for every Indian to defend Islam

Hindutva politics has conjured up new claims to target the most sensitive aspects of the Muslim psyche. It wants to provoke a collective response.

The aggressive Hindutva campaign to interrupt a peaceful assembly of Muslim worshippers performing Namaz, especially in Gurugram, upsets me deeply. It goes against the two crucial principles I always cherish: my spiritual faith in almighty Allah and my belief in the Gandhian ideal of ‘sarvdharm sambhav‘.

As a practicing Muslim, my Namaz has always been a reflection of my commitment to spirituality. My colleagues, friends, teachers, and students have always been encouraging. No one has ever found it anti-Hindu or anti-India. Even unknown people, mostly Hindus, pay respect to my Namaz. This was so heartening that I was able to offer Namaz in moving trains, on busy streets, in the corridors of hospitals, and even inside the functional Hindu temples.

As a researcher, I have made equally reassuring discoveries. The CSDS-NES survey 2019 and the recent Pew study on religion in India confirm that an overwhelming majority of Hindus still respect Islam as an Indian religion. In fact, it is strongly asserted that a Hindu cannot be recognised as a ‘good Hindu’ if they do not respect other religions of India, including Islam.

So, what has changed? What has prompted Hindu communalism to problematise Namaz as an anti-Hindu phenomenon?

Also Read: Politics over namaz inside historic Taj mosque likely to survive beyond 2019

Why Namaz?
It is important to note that the Namaz (Salat in Arabic) is one of the five pillars of Islam (the other four are Shahad, Saum/Roza, Zakat, and Hajj). Yet, it has become the most important performative religious activity.

The rise of Tablighi Jamaat in India as the most powerful Sunni religious reform movement in recent years also contributed significantly to this process. There is a strong belief among Sunni Muslim communities that Namaz is the only criterion to evaluate a person’s moral-religious character as a Muslim.

This renewed emphasis on Namaz actually has led to two crucial developments. First, the number of Muslim namazis (worshippers) has increased in an unprecedented manner. The mosque space becomes insufficient to accommodate this ever-increasing number, especially in big cities and towns. As a result, a new trajectory of mosque-building has begun. These new mosques are beginning to function as new symbols of Islamic religiosity.

Second, rural-urban labour migration also played a significant role in the public demonstration of Namaz-centric religiosity. Muslim labourers, artisans, skilled and semi-skilled workers, who are employed in various factories and firms located in the industrial zones do not have proper mosques. The working-class Muslim population eventually offer Namaz on open spaces and roads, especially on Fridays.

This visible Muslim presence has been a symbol of Indian secularism for a long time. It corresponds to the Gandhian imagination of sarvdharma sambhav as well as the Nehruvian conception of ‘unity in diversity’.

Also Read: Muslims must give up azaan by loudspeakers. Even Prophet would have rejected it

Namazis as new untouchables
Hindutva politics, however, always find it difficult to have a convincing position on the practice of Namaz. That was the reason the act of Namaz was not used more directly to underline Hindu victimhood. The standard Hindutva argument that “all Indians are Hindus though our patterns of worship differ” is always evoked to legitimise this Hindutva unease.

The attitude of Hindus towards Namaz was another crucial reason behind Hindutva’s strategic silence on this issue. It was difficult for a Hindutva group to demonise Muslims only because they were offering Namaz. For a common Hindu, Namaz is not different from any other Hindu religious practice. It is envisaged as a spiritual manifestation of belief in dharma.

The public manifestations of Namaz-centric Muslim religiosity — green minarets of recently rebuilt mosques sharing the city sky with flyovers and metro tracks, Muslim congregations on busy roads, and the loud sound of Azan — however, was a different phenomenon. It offered three new possibilities to Hindutva politics to focus entirely on Namaz in the post-Ram temple context. First, it became easier for them to justify the old Hindutva claim that Muslims’ adherence to Allah does not permit them to embrace nation-worship. Hence, they have to prove their loyalty. Congregational Namaz on roads are actually treated as convincing evidence in this regard.

Second, the act of Namaz has been reconceptualised as an antithesis of Hindu religious practices, as if performing Namaz in a Hindu place of worship is not permissible. This is exactly what Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal argue in Uttarakhand.

They went on to submit a memorandum to the Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister demanding “a probe into allegations that some Muslim labourers offered namaz at Badrinath Dham on Eid-ul-Adha”. In this case, the old Brahminical purity argument that the entry of untouchables would pollute Hindu temples is reconfigured to exclude Muslims.

The third possibility is entirely class-driven. Namaz on roads was shown to be a serious traffic concern as it disturbed the normal pace of hectic urban life. This was a persuasive claim that had the potential to influence the educated urban middle classes.

Also Read: Why UP police order to ban public Namaz should not have been revoked

The secular Indian elite
The rigid secularism of the Indian elite has always been a source of their anti-poor/anti-caste stereotypes. A person who believes that reservation undermines merit, Indian needs military rule, and population growth is the only social problem of the country, will obviously get attracted to this Hindutva argument.

These three new claims — the oneness of Allah as an anti-thesis of nationalism, Namaz as an impure, anti-Hindu act, and Namaz as a crisis in urban spaces — help Hindutva politics touch upon the most sensitive aspect of the Muslim psyche. The purpose is to provoke Muslims to react as a collective, simply to legitimise Hindu victimhood.

No one knows how Muslim communities would respond to this new, unsettling campaign against Namaz. Personally, I do not wish to take refuge in the typical legal-secular argument that offering Namaz is my fundamental right as a citizen. Instead, I would like to reiterate my commitment in what I understand as the ‘Hindu ethos’. I am confident that my Hindu friends will definitely defend their faith in Islam as an Indian religion.

Muns et. al,

You guys remember, Sathya Pal Mallik? He was first appointed governor of J&K post 370 revocation. I thought he was doing a good job. A non nonsense guy who was a pretty tough administrator with a sense of humor. I recall his funny characterization of Harried rats as a bunch of Paki mouthpieces who can't even go to the bathroom with ISI's permission.

What happened to this guy since then? Seems to me has turned on ModiJI and central BJP leadership. I mean why was he shifted out of J&K in the first place? It seemed like he was doing a good job. Was it the Pulwama effect? Recall, he was at the helm when Pulwama horror was unleashed by Pakis. (Although now he boasts that Paki terrorists would dare not come anywhere near Srinagar during his tenure). Whatever maybe the reason, he routinely takes pot shots. He has consistently batted for those so called 'farmers' and their dada giri tactics. Any clues as to what this guy is up to and how much influence does he have?

HI CRamS,

To be honest, don’t really know much about this guy. I leave it to Aditya, on the ground to leave some comments about him. I think with UP elections just around the corner however, many are going to try and scramble for their own political influence. Perhaps some tie up he’s hoping with SP or BSP? Expect to see a lot of this in the coming months, especially closer to UP elections.
He's from Meerut he says from the above link. Born in Baghpat wiki says. previously contested from Aligarh on SP ticket.

Seems like BJP is going to contest on its own and Punjab and for all seats. A good choice I feel. They’ve been hamstringed in the past with the Badals. Perhaps tie up on their own with young Sikh leaders in the communities, and start the process a fresh.

UP elections are critical for 2024. We all know that. The next few months ago to really start seeing some vicious propaganda and mud hurling.
I would not doubt that we will receive more “farmer” riots, “farmer” gatherings in Muzaffarnagar and before you know it more “farmer” lynchings.
Expect to see a lot more of Muslims stating that they are “terrorized” under the right-wing Yogi government. BBC will furiously publish such news front page every other day.

I really hope that the BJP IT cell is feverently working on this.

We will try to also raise a presence on all of our social media sites over the next couple of months with regard to the UP elections. Trying to find some more people on the ground can really give us the information we need.

Best Belated Diwali Wishes to all forumites. Best health and wealth to all of you in the coming year.

Another thing is that every year Diwali happens, NDTV runs a marathon nonstop about how Diwali firecrackers negatively affect everybody’s health. Yet again nothing on the stubble burning that is 95% of the cause. Two days of firecracker burning and it’s an endless tirade, how we must protect all of the asthmatics and all the homeless are forced to bear the pollution.

Perhaps counter propaganda is the answer? We can showcase the rise of alcohol use leading to alcoholism because of Christmas… And the spread of zoonotic viruses from Bakri Id.
I think there's more data that can be shown from the latter.

This time around, there seems to have been an organic, though uncoordinated pushback against the cracker ban and many who usually do not burst firecrackers have done so now with a vengeance. hizzoners have been quietly put on notice by the very din of the firecrackers and the determined insistence of the aam jantha to safeguard their culture and heritage

This "civil disobedience" doesn't look like it is being led by any political party but most parties are refraining from commenting on it.

In spite of the liberandus, desert cults, and wokes trying to shame our Hindu festivals and deride the allegedly superstitious practices, it is solely and unmistakably to the resounding credit to the Hindu festival season that a 10 year record achievement of Rs 1,25,000 crores of retail sales during this Diwali has been accomplished thus adding a massive economic stimulus.

let us see, if, in the days to come, there is any woke blow back from the "pillars of our democracy"

BTW, which other festivals from elsewhere are able to generate so much business

I was going through satyapal Malik's statements in favour of farmers. This guy is a Jatt and belongs to Bag path UP. No doubt he has taken good actions on Jammu and Kashmir when he was a governor. But now suddenly he is in support of farmers, reason behind that is He was thinking after revoking 370 he will get good post in Jammu and Kashmir. But BJP has not favoured him and transferred him from there. On the second hand as sources says he and Rakesh tikait known to each other for a long time. Now in by-election BJP has not won any seat he is thinking that he is going to get some offers from opposition or may be BJP will offer him something in government. But modi knows how this guy works that is why he transferred him to Meghalaya.

I often watch Modi’s yoga videos. Even I could’ve not predicted the Yogic contortion move that he unleashed tonight. It started off with everything that he has done to bend over backwards for the 2 acre farmer. Of course I think this was a stroke of genius because it showed how much in the way of resources the government is pouring to support every farmer that may own only 2 acres of land and how much they are subsidized.

Frankly he made it seem like a joke. If farmers themselves cannot introspect and see what a waste, 2 acre farming is…well what to say… He has definitely sold the seed of the futility of the matter.

Having done so, he then unleashed the Brahmastra.

Repeal of the 3 farm laws, which I can only say has led to ConRakshasas to come out to feast in the intoxication.

Modi has bent over sideways and backways to accommodate the Sikhs. You would think he is half Sikh himself.

What is the strategy here? Is it self-preservation after the recent warning from By polls?

Is he gunning to actually take control of Punjab? Is this UP specific strategy with elections upcoming close by?

Did he take the wind out of Rakesh Tikait, or has he created the Male Mamta?

Only time I guess will answer the questions.

What a night. Bharat never fails to surprise me.

On another short note, would like to quickly comment about Kangana and the brave woman that she is. She is literally taken the media head on, with regard to her “bheekh” statement.

Initially, I thought while does she continually bring attention to herself with statements such as these.

Then again, I have myself thinking again that, why not?

Why not set the cat occasionally among the hens, instead of following the same old diatribe.

At the very least, it gets people thinking to wonder and make the historical arguments.

So to the Rani and Thalaivi, please keep them coming….

Surjeet admits to raising Sikh homeland issue

NEW DELHI, Nov 5 (UNI) — The CPM general Secretary, Mr Harkishen Singh Surjeet, has admitted he raised the concept of a separate Sikh homeland in the 1940s, but said he did so to counter the two-nation theory accepted by the then Communist Party of India.

Replying to a controversy raised by a biographical book on him, Siyasat Da Rustum-e-Hind, written by TV journalist Shameel, at the Share-e-Aam programme on Tara Punjabi TV, Mr Surjeet said he had drafted the "Sikh homeland" document to blunt the arguments of his party’s another leader Sajjad Zaheer in favour of Pakistan.

Mr Surjeet recalled that Zaheer had sent him a 34-page concept paper while he was in a Gujarat jail in the early 1940s. The paper contained strong arguments in favour of the two-nation theory, which too was the accepted party line and later became the basis of Partition.

Irked with the party stand, Mr Surjeet said, he wrote back to the party that "if Hindus and Muslims are two separate nations, then so are Sikhs." But, Mr Surjeet said, later both he and his party rejected the division of the country on communal lines.

He, however, confessed that the division of the country had hit the Communists harder than any other political party.

In the two-part programme, to be telecast on Tuesday and Wednesday night, Mr Surjeet also criticised the Congress governments for Operation Bluestar, sending of the armed forces into the Golden Temple complex in June, 1984, and the anti-Sikh riots in November, 1984, in Delhi and other parts of the country.

Anil Ghanwat is the head of the committee appointed by the SC to submit a report on the farm laws

He had submitted the report to the powers that be in a sealed cover and they sat on it for so many months

he says that the majority of the farmers were in favor of the farm laws and some minor tweaks have been suggested but, by and large, most of them were very happy with the new farm laws brought in by Modi

why was the report not made public is the billion dollar question.

Cui bono..............., or who benefits....

Anil Ghanwat had said just a few days ago that since the farm laws have been repealed, secrecy is no longer an issue and if the report is not released by the same powers that be, then he, Anil Ghanwat, would make the report public

The repeal of the laws is a surgical strike all right, but who is/was the specific target.

was it the khalistanis or the wokes.............

Mr. Ghanwat says the meetings are video recorded, they met a lot of people, farmers, farmer leaders and agriculture experts and the report has every detail. The laws would have done a lot of good to the farmers and would have boosted the sector, also making it profit making.
