Re: Nukkad

Japan and SoKo have food and energy security concerns as well, especially Japan which is mostly mountainous and has 125M people squished into flatlands that are earthquake prone . Tokyo can be absurdly crowded at times; pretty much all the locals know when not to venture where, as familiar as they a...

Re: Nukkad

Re: Japan after WW2, it wasn’t merely about aid. The most important thing that helped them, and which was also helpful to SoKo later, was that the quality of their human capital FAR exceed India’s. SoKo was poorer than India at one time, yes. But they had a literacy rate of >70% at that time. We are...

Re: Nukkad

Nice story, RB! Good thing the other side didn’t know to block BGR and running websites from their network for the duration of the negotiation or you’d have caved in within 5 minutes :) Yes it is true that Japanese cities are efficiently setup but not pretty . They’re not ‘run down’, just practical ...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

Technically, that's not an analytical way to approach this. All the exit polls start with raw data from their poll, which gives them a vote share projection. Upon that, they all apply a proprietary formula to get seat share. This calculation is where things diverge widely. Have been meddling with t...

They missed BH and here they are way off from other polls, just like how it was for BH. Technically, that's not an analytical way to approach this. One of those days when Rohit Sharma once again leaves you shaking your head in wonder. Just by himself he accounts for 3 of the 6 scores in ODIs above 200, including the record for the highest ever ODI inning.

It is STILL not a citizenship :) I can't believe you keep going on calling it one all because the word appears in the name, and demanding things of it that don't exist as per law.

Re: Nukkad

What I want is the PIO designation again, just to be clear as it was unambiguous compared to OCI. You are correct as it will matter what my kids want to do in the future. Despite what you claim, 'PIO' is as ambiguous as 'OCI' . PIO was applicable to non-Indian spouses of Indians . Continuing the st...

Why would you want to use an in person service when the online system is so much more efficient ? I live in the Bay Area but have never been to CGISF in person. Both my last 2 passport renewals were done entirely online though I could drive 45 minutes. They set up an efficient processing system, why...

Re: Nukkad

Irrelevant. The process is godawful and that does not change. I could be a citizen of Timbuktoo and the fact does not change that the process for OCI renewal is illogical and totally awful. Maybe for you since in your case an OCI application for your child involves establishing a complex familial l...

I can’t find where an OCI will not avail consular support. It appears to provide parity with a regular citizen in this regard. We need a facepalm icon here. OCI's categorization cannot be more clear: An OCI is not a citizen of India, because you hold a FOREIGN PASSPORT and NOT an Indian one. You're...

Re: Nukkad

Far too much trouble is being taken to nitpick about the name of a permanent residency status and assume various things on the basis of a word in the name. GoI can call it whatever they like, but anyone who's been a GC or RoA should have no problem grasping the concept of OCI, and yet there's endles...

Re: Nukkad

The nearest thing to OCI that I can think of is UK's Right of Abode. It's basically an unconditional permanent residency by ancestral claim, like OCI is. I have a UK-born parent, and through that I am entitled to apply for UK RoA, though I've never bothered to actually acquire it. It's an entitlemen...

Re: Nukkad

Mort, this is a really simply concept . OCIs are not treated as citizens for consular purposes, not are they citizens per se. It simply accords treatment on par with citizens while in India. It's a privilege and not a right that citizens have. That's standard process for a permanent residency system...

Re: Nukkad

The GoI is under NO obligation to provide OCI services to PIOs. Which is fine, but they are the ones advocating the OCI to PIOs and asking PIOs to invest in India. This is disingenuously advertised. Your child is of Japanese origin and the Japanese counsulate is providing services to him as they se...

Re: Nukkad

I think you’re mistaken. Indian consulates in the US have as its functions to provide passports to Indians, OCI to PIOs, and visas of different categories. By not doing these jobs well does not mean they are providing better services to you as an Indian citizen inside or outside of India. To the co...

Yes that video is from last year's Asian Champions Trophy final in Singapore. It was also a hard fought match that we won in the last minute of regulation time. There's quite some drama in the end. Check it out. In this just concluded Asia Cup, we didn't win in regular penalty strokes. Those ended 4...
