Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
1. DeMo - There is no follow up on high value deposits with no IT returns. The limited resources of the IT dept (which should have been strengthened) are still used in following up on small claims, harassing small taxpayers etc instead of the just 1.8 lac people with unexplained high value deposits...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
This LOU business is not as per any international norms and it is also not accepted by any international bank. The international language for a LOU is 'bank guarantee'. I can assure you it's quite international. Feel free to google. The problem isn't the existence of LOUs but non-existent standards...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
Irrespective of the spin of blaming RBI or anybody else, the buck ultimately stops with the govt. I get my info. from public domain (PD), same as most others do, and so far I have not seen the news that whistleblowers approached RBI or the govt./PMO forwarded the case to RBI, so maybe I missed that...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
It is the RBI's mandate to act on the whistleblower statements. Do you have any evidence that GoI refused to route these to RBI ? People simultaneously want GoI to be hands off from banks and to let RBI run the banking system with greater independence, but when a bank refuses to follow an RBI issued...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
seriously ulta chor kotwal ko daante.. when the entire dealing with PNB was based on fraud & cheating..how is this argument tenable? Why did he run away if he was clean? As of now more LoUs are being discovered that is why GoI is tight lipped; final magnitude of scam will be much higher than 10000 ...
Re: Cricket
I see nothing wrong with Kohli fielding the side he did in the last ODI . Years from now - even weeks from now - no one will remember team composition , yet all record books will say the score line was 5-1 in SAs own den , with SA ranked world #1 at the start . No other #1 team has lost this badly a...

I was looking through the last Olympics result and came across SHQs (and little one, since he's dual Japanese-American citizen) country tally data: Japan at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 6th position Both her first name and his Japanese name choice are among their set of gold medalist names. Naturally m...
Re: Cricket
Nice 124 run win there. Up 3-0 with three comprehensive wins on top of the Wanderers test win. I wish we'd gotten to SA a week or two sooner to acclimatize, or the test series could also have gone our way. 160* from Kohli for big white bwana Jennings baba to pisko dissect further and provide greater...
Re: Cricket
Inferior captain ? There's been a consistent characterization of Kohli as 'bad mannered' in general. Particularly ironic when the Brits or Aussies say it. 'He doesn't behave genteel like Sachin or Dravid' they say. They don't like Indians acting like Kohli does, and there's a segment of the Indian p...

I’ve never picked up anyone else’s non Japanese passport there, but when it’s a Japanese passport in question , they do make the applicant pick up in person , even if applicant is 3.5 months old . I know that, because SHQ asked me to go pick up son’s newly issued passport and the matron overruled he...

She doesn't terrorize anyone. She is humorless and by the book, in that very Japanese way. She corrected my estimated journey length because flight took off at just past midnight and I wrongly counted journey length by one day :geek: Doesn't demean applicants, at least not me. The problem is that Ja...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
GoI's first estimate of premiums was right in the range I suggested: Rs.1100 vs my range of Rs.1000-1500: Modicare: New health insurance plan may cost Centre, states $1.71 bn a year Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious plan to provide health insurance to 100 million poor families would require R...

1. Double-dipping - With a basic insurance cover paid for by the Center, all similar programs run by states should be terminated This is fairly SOP. Even NREGA was a creation made up of several prior partial programs being cobbled together into one large highly publicized program. The new insurance...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
It is an insurance scheme and not a payment scheme. GoI essentially offers an insurance policy (probably linked to one Aadhaar ID per family) worth Rs.5 lakh in coverage and pays the annual premium for it I am dead sure that linking this to Aadhaar would be the very next step :). And expect more wh...

SHQ went to Japani consulate recently to apply for her multiple entry visa (insult to injury: $8 for Indians, free for Pakis   ). Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017
The only issue I have with Modi is not taking care of the rural sector earlier before farmers' unrest in MP, MH, GJ, RJ and else where. How could Modi miss this? The unrest is politically driven . The underlying economic factors do exist, and Jaggi describes it very well in his analysis of the budg...

I know its an insurance scheme but it has all the hallmarks of morphing into a mega scam of epic proportions Irrelevant argument. Throwing the word 'scam' about is the equivalent of crying wolf at anything . The more often you do it, the less people care about it. Also the average premiums for a 5 ...

The medical insurance scheme - so called Modicare just doesn't add up At 5 lacs per family for 10 cr families ifgod forbid they all land up with some ailments will cost 770 billion USD every year I hope they got their sums right Even if a tenth avail of this scheme it will cost us 77 BILLION USD a ...
Re: Cricket
We won. The ba$tards used a heavy roller in the morning which made the pitch behave for the first session and most of second session. But from what I read, the heavy roller also screws up the pitch more than the light roller for later. So THAT is what happened . I was wondering “is this the same pi...
Re: Cricket
I think it's a genuine performance from the bowling unit. Sometimes they wavered or lost focus and discipline to give away easy runs, but 5 good performances in 5 innings (potentially 6 in 6 if they win it) is not happenstance. They will do well in Eng and NZ. It's the batting, particularly weak sli...

Re: Nukkad
Regarding SoKo, IIRC they spent almost 20% of their GDP on education during initial years, even now, their expenditure on education is very high > 7%. How much we do? Ours has been plagued by subsidies, doles etc. If we had spent similar amount on education, our literacy would have been nearly 90%....
