Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - 3 (Oct 2018 - )
Kjo, help me with this site. I clicked 'donate to corpus fund' and it asked me for phone #. I gave my US cell#, it sent a text with a code, I entered that and then it asked how much contribution in Indian Rs. When I entered that amount, I thought it will take me to enter a CC# or paypal. But instea...

Re: Books Discussion Thread
My problem is that I am more of a purist, thus, 'interpretations' do not work for me. The story needs to be authentic, and sourced from the original Kesari Mohan Ganguli or similar texts. saar, in that case, kisaari mOhan gangooly is also no-go. May be BORI critical edition by Sukhtankar and Karmar...

Here's one for the L&M gurus. In brief: Major Amit was married to Shailaja who used to do modelling and a beauty contest finalist with a 6 year old son. He was posted in Nagaland. Major Nikhil saw her picture on Facebook and fell in love. :? Not that good looking, but then love is blind.

Re: New Forum Categories Launched
My previous question was about BGF projects, not BGF. Sorry. Any entity that remains stagnant will die sooner or later. So I think this place should evolve with time as per what is best for it (whatever it may be). BGF Projects is a thought I had for members to get together and do something tangibl...

Re: Non-Indian Films discussion thread...
Primus, I bought a copy of the book Battlefield Earth right after the movie release. After reading the movie reviews, donated the book to the library without reading. After the high praise from you, I think I will re-start. Somehow my reading has taken a hit in the last two-three years. I was 2/3 th...

Primus, thanks for the recommendations. Your views on John Brunner (Stand on Zanzibar, Sheep Lookup), Alfred Bester (The Demolished Man, The Stars my Destination)? Two my favorite authors. I read those four books. Stans on Zanzibar, The Demolished Man, and The stars my dest. all won Hugo and/or Nebu...

How about we start an SF&F thread? and also a General fiction/non-fiction thread as well?
How do we move the SF&F posts from this thread to the new thread?

Best of Henry Kuttner - kindle edition for $0.99
First story in there is the story "Mimsy were the Borogoves"
PS: Looks like the paperback is nothing but a re-issue of the bets of henry kuttner.

Story collection The Last Mimzy I bought a copy (paper back) from Amazon. It is a collection of short stories by Kuttner. The book is named The Last Mimzy. This came out after the movie. Intro by Ray Bradbury is very good. The first story is "Mimsy were the Borogoves" in this collection. In the mov...

He reviews on on GoodReads as well. I find some of his reviews good. But this person is too euro-centric for my taste. He has certain fixed notions though.

Re: Non-Indian Films discussion thread...
True. There are too many new writers. I like the 1940s-60s pulp. SF shirt story form, husband and wife pair Henry Kuutner and C. L. Moore cannot be beaten. Give their stories a try. One of the most famous is "Mimsy were the Borogove" on which the movie is based. But the movie pales in comparison to ...

Primus, not to forget Robert L. Forward and Fred Hoyle (yes, the same, the astrophysicist) and Jayant Narlikar. I, for one, did not like Hyperion all that much but love Greg Bear. Have to still read any of Doc Smith and Jack Vance.
What do you people think of China Mieville, and Ian M. Banks?

Primus and Ricky, you might have read these authors but just in case.
Lois McMaster bujold, David Brin ar per quite impressive. I like the character miles vorkosigon immensely from the former.
My reaction to Gene wolf is same as Primus'; stopped after reading the first book.

SW has run out of steam looong back. Why are they beating this dead horse? Still it is impressive that Lucas can squeeze a $1 billion from the suckers. Reminds of the PT Barnum's quote "There is a sucker born every minute" (or something to that effect).

Companies are coming out like AT&T and FedEx stating the reduction in corporate taxes will boost their profits by billions. Higher profits will be distributed as dividends in most companies that are normal, i.e. not these half-a$$ed 'growth growth growth' social networking trash. $19 billlion for w...
