Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - 3 (Oct 2018 - )

arshyam, if you are more than 10 lakhs you are in a very small minority of a few million in a country of 1.3 billion. That is how poor India is. Even then since exemption limit has been increased. It will cover 95% of IT payers but will not affect much if your salary is say 50 lakhs. How many in th...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - 3 (Oct 2018 - )

^^Well, it is impossible to believe that the party CG election team could not predict a vote swing of -8% away from BJP and no change in Congi vote share! I don't know how the results will finally look like, but there is something seriously incomplete about the picture here. The State assembly elec...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - 2 (Mar 2018 - )

I suspect AS will engineer something. Rumours are afloat that around 10 Cong MLAs under the command of their "master vacation arranger" may jump ship and join the communals. Just enough Cong/ JDS members have to abstain for a vote of confidence to be lost. Ideally, after a spell of Governors rule, ...

Re: Election Discussions - National, State etc

I for one hope that BJP plays by the book! let governor take a call based on post-poll alliance letter that JDS and INC gives him. Let the mismanagement of state be clear to all and maybe in time for 2019 check if have a split in INC & JDS is on cards. I am sure both will be looking over their shou...

Re: Election Discussions - National, State etc

Now I am going to be critical. This guy seems to be a lot of pedantic gas using lots of seemingly sophisticated analytics methods, but his conclusions swing wildly. Just 2 days ago, he was predicting a BJP win that will shock Congoons, ModiJi is a rock star yada yada, and now he is going the other ...

Re: Election Discussions - National, State etc

#Karnataka2018: Why I Think BJP Will Get Way More Seats Than Expected (swarajya) 150+ apparently. Counting chickens ere the hatching, seems like to me. I'll settle for anything above 113. More is better if it helps reduce the bargaining power of individual factions and fiefdoms come govt formation....

Re: Election Discussions - National, State etc

All the major opinion polls (incl. 543) broadly say the following: 1. BJP+JD(S) can comfortably form the govt. Cong on its own cannot get a majority in any survey. 2. BJP will get around 35% vote share (8% below LS 14 is what has happened in every state election after 2014). Where seat forecasts var...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

Karnataka and Rajasthan will be key for BJP to retain same position in 2019 at the Center or not. If Congress retains KA and gains Rajasthan, it can eat away many seats in then BJP territory in the North (given how we saw it in Gujarat). BJP can fall back below majority even if it retains UP. For 2...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

Lets examine Modiji's proposal to privatize coal mining in context of FDI and Mauritius Treaty Solution I propose is to IMPROVE Coal India, and not privatize even 1% of coal mining. This will reduce inefficiency in coal mining. Giving coal mines to foreigners particularly usuk-elitemen via privatiz...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

As of Nov, 1.16 lac notices were sent to those from the above, who had deposited over 25 lacs and did not have a return or (I assume) responded to the earlier communication. This is the step before legal action and therefore significant recovery should have been budgeted in both the 16-17 revised e...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

I guess then it makes it all the more easier for the govt to seize those accounts that have not replied to IT notices. But there might be some legal provision to wait for a certain period of time before confiscating those amounts. But my concern is if there is still money in those accounts. If they...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

Deans, it's no one's claim that the IT department is efficient. Maybe your own hassles provide context into why it's not going to be a prompt job to do all the other DeMo work you expect of them ? Or perhaps that work gets more priority than your example does ? I think we are both making the same p...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

Most people who have been sent notices for large deposits during DeMo have filed or refiled their IT returns. Now their returns have to be compared with previous year returns to determine any tax evasion. The income tax cannot do anything until these to and fro procedures are followed. And many of ...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

Deans: the news article quotes additional revenue until Dec 2017. This is not a static or final figure, or even close to it. Please remember, you're asking for something that requires additional manpower, time and effort on top of everything the IT department already does. It's far easier to track ...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

Deans, It is a dangerous step to arrest defaulters wilful or otherwise. It will become a witch-hunt. The courts do not like arrests in such cases without sufficient proof. Otherwise Mallya would have been arrested. Proper investigations have to be carried out and chargesheets have to be filed. Not ...

I am not sure why we should blame Modi and Jaitely for a fraud that happened in a branch of a bank. Tomorrow you will blame Modi for your maids smelly fart. I think this is to spread FUD to do a equal-equal with Congress corruption. The task before Modi and Shah is to prevent the engineered negativ...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

Its not just a problem of Jaitley or the Babu's (most of whom have been handpicked by Modi ji). The Govt as a whole has just not got a grip on governance, as far as finance is concerned. While the intent is good and the ideas that flow from it sound (DeMo, GST, Benami) the implementation has been te...

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

GST was ok. Budget 2018 was a clear disappointment and then Nirav totally messed it up for them. Jaitley should have saved some tax break optics for the middle class for 2018. He could still save the day by throwing some major middle class sop by mid-2018. Hopefully, GST collections pick up steam i...

I never thought I'd agree with anything Pappu says, but the PM & FM's silence on the scam is not right. Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

A lot of the Rs 5500 odd crore seized will probably be rough diamonds, or diamonds that have not been paid for. Seizing them might cripple the whole diamond trading system. I doubt NiMo's assets were anywhere close to that figure.

Re: The Great Indian Political Drama - Oct 2017

The larger problem is that the banking system is rotten and can take the economy down with it. In an earlier post, I mentioned how PNB had extended a rather dubious loan to the company I ran (when the promoter was unable to repay the loan). To take another slightly unrelated example - the company im...
