Nepal and Himalayan News and Discussion 2019

Post by Muns » Sun Jul 07, 2019 10:09 pm

An important thread I feel especially with regard to the increasing Chinese influence in Nepal. There has been a lot of recent news with regard to KP Oli increasingly tending to favor the Chinese as a primary trading partner than India. Our new site as well regularly tries to focus on the Nepali diaspora in India which probably number approximately 2 million.

Over the last few years this is an increasing concern especially with regard to strategic security in India as the Indo Nepali border is completely porous. With Nepal’s economy also being in the poor state that it is, many Nepalis have been forced to emigrate to the Middle East for taking up jobs. This is also meant that many conversions of Hindu Nepalis have taken place leading to many of these expatriates coming back and setting up madrassahs on the Indo Nepal Border.

We have published quite a few videos on this and I will continue to post important topics with regard to this important strategic relationship.
Over the last week we have seen reports of Nepali children in some schools where Mandarin has now become compulsory learning.
Not just that, but Nepal has also stopped any celebrations with regard to celebrating the Dalai Lama’s birthday.
KP Oli has also repeatedly asked for resumption of the SAARC Summit which includes Pakistan, instead of BIMSTEC which India has been trying to promote.

Even with all the billions in in aid that we have given Nepal and our overwhelming help in developing the country including infrastructure involving schools and bridges, we can't seem to encourage even people to people contact. Nepalis as we have seen on our social media channels regularly post and detest Indians it seems with a passion. They are regular news reports put out by Chinese constantly stating all India's interference especially with the Madhesi issue in a bid to annex Nepal. China after annexing so many territories now has turned its propaganda machine onto Nepal.
Nepal is vital to India's security with the mountains to some extent deterring the Chinese but also because but also because of Nepal's resources with regard to its mountains, glaciers as well as Hydro resources...Which feed the Indian plains.

Nepali (read Nepaki) newspapers as bankrolled by China are making a field day of this. New stories are abundant about how India is pushing through poisonous vegetables to kill the Nepali population. Simply ridiculous. Every natural calamity or disaster we have been there for them 1st. Tens of billions do we keep pumping into Nepal for its infrastructure projects. Yet it is news stories like this that keep the anti India flame alive. It is time that India make active steps I feel to ally politicly with a grassroots party in Nepal as Chinese have done.

No call yet again has been hip quite hard during this monsoon season. Flash floods as well as overflowing of the Kosi and Gandaki rivers on the Nepali side seem to be causing a lot of damage as well as deaths from flooding. Apparently the Nepali's are blaming India again for Dyke -like structures along the border that seem to be holding the floodwaters in Nepal. Again more anti-India sentiment to deal with.
It seems that India does control some of the barrages and gates in Nepal to release floodwaters. Unfortunately this means that releasing more floodwaters into Bihar. Bihar itself seems to be going through its own crisis. Posted the link below here for further reading.

To be honest, a little bit shocking. Top upcoming cricketer of Nepal, Who has regularly played for the Delhi Daredevils and rejected for a US Visa. Forget about your common Nepali then.

Modi is currently in Bhutan. Perhaps it is not the right time but I wish that we did this this issue earlier with regard to Bhutan. This issue specifically relates to the refugee issue of Hindu Lhotshampas who have been stateless for decades. Usually numbering around hundred and 10,000 they had been subject to staying as third-class citizens in the nation that strives for gross domestic happiness.

For the Lhotshampas, the last few decades have been nothing but misery for them. Being of the Nepali ethnicity and staying in Bhutan for the last few decades, they were quickly viewed by the Bhutanese monarchy as a threat radically changing the demographics of Bhutan in a few decades. In view of this even Lhotshampas who had appropriate documents and were citizens have his citizenship removed.

I never really understood why but the US granted refugee status to around 96,000 refugee Lhotshampas and most of them have made a home for themselves here in the United States. However, from what I understand that are still approximately 7000 that still live in camps in Bhutan and are mainly elderly as well as children. They are Hindus. In view of this, they should really be granted status under the citizenship amendment act akin to other refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Modi, I hope, will take up this issue in Bhutan.

India provides Rs 233 crore financial aid to Nepal for infrastructure projects

The amounts of money that we are reporting to Nepal in the last few years is simply staggering. Unfortunately we simply can]t seem to establish more people to people contacts. On our social media sites that we see there is overwhelming anti-India sentiment. Nepal being a boundary state is usually relevant for the amount of resources it contains especially hydroelectric and the mineral deposits from its mountains. It is vital that we seek to try and change the paradigm already overtly under Chinese influence. This includes multiple Chinese websites, and would hope to bring more awareness to the crisis in Nepal on a daily basis.
