Pranay stuns LCW. Has done in past also once.
LCW is aging but was the 2nd biggest contender after Victor.
Sad to see him losing more often by the youngsters.

Attacking Kidambi Srikanth stuns World No. 1 Viktor Axelsen in three games
Kidambi Srikanth caused mental mayhem for World Champion Viktor Axelsen in beating the Dane 14-21, 22-20, 21-7 on Friday to make the semifinals of Denmark Open. Winner of two Super Series titles this season, Srikanth had gone off the boil at the World Championships where Axelsen picked his maiden crown. But Srikanth pounced on the net often and was assured in his attacking play at Axelsen’s home event, to record a major upset in front of the partisan crowd.

The 24-year-old Indian unleashed a flurry of down the line smashes deep on Axelsen’s forehand in overturning a first set deficit. The offense was potent in both pace and precision, but Srikanth gained confidence for what was a whiplash of a decider after some gritty retrieving in the second set.

Biggest upset. This Viktor guy had been marauding the opponents like ants. Beat LCW and other biggies this year like a cake walk so full marks to you Kidambi.

Need to hold your nerve in finals and more reputed champioships like WC, Olympics and Asiad

Kidambi Srikanth beats Lee Hyun to win Denmark Open title

Kidambi Srikanth beats Lee Hyun Il 21-10, 21-5 to win Denmark Open

Kidambi Srikanth took just 25 minutes to win his third Super Series title of the year. A dominant performance from in-form Srikanth as he gave no chance to Korea's Lee Hyun Il in the summit clash.

I was surprised to see no celebration from Kidambi after winning.

Here is what he said,
“Winning the Denmark Open will be a special feeling. This win serves a reminder that my two previous Super Series titles (Indonesian and the Australian Opens) were no flashes in the pan.”

Srikanth added, though, that he was not going to rest on his laurels.

“Definitely, I wish to keep winning more and more Super Series titles. That’s the only way, looking forward. These rankings were never on my mind at any stage of my career; they are the direct outcome of success at the highest level. So, the first objective is to keep winning major titles,” he said.

“To be consistent over a longer period is the bigger goal for me.”

Does this have something to do with Indonesian coach Mulyo Handoyo joining the Indian team?

“Of course. His training methods are different and very productive too. And, when someone like him and Gopi sir combine, the results are bound to be different,” he said.

Srikanth will now eye a grand finish to the year, at the Dubai BWF World Super Series Final.

3rd game against Viktor was a cakewalk. 21-7 is impressive considering Viktor has been winning consistently against likes of LD, LCW etc. Was he injured that he gave up so easily?

Wow, Srikanth was totally in control beginning first half of first set.

Congratulations to him and the entire coaching/support staff.

Much better game though than Denmark final.

The china brigade generally stay low in the series of lesser prominence but put up their best efforts in World Champioship, Olympics, Asiad etc..

Lin Dan would stay out through out the year and suddenly appear unseeded in World Championship and beat the likes of LCW mostly.

But I tend to agree that the China glory is fading with LD on the verge of retirement and Chen Long lacks consistency. In the last 2-3 series, he had been eliminated in the initial rounds itself by the opponents whom Kidambi had been mauling these days.

at present we have same players in mens top25 then cheen and ours are all young.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BWF_World ... 7s_singles

on womens side unfortunately we lack anyone to back up Sindhu, with Saina nearing end of her career. Saina will always be a honoured person as someone who opened the gates and made the nation believe we could compete with and defeat the best.

in a nation cowed down with harsh defeats on all fronts, and constantly told by fakenews historians and leftist activists and BIF that we are weak and useless , it is important to have such people who defiantly stand up and say 'we can do it'

older players do that to prolong their career as injuries take a toll. like MSD does not play tests these days. though not active in circuit he probably practises on his own back home with adequate rest periods...he is known as a rebel and not keen to follow anyones diktats. bad news for china is there is nobody young coming up remotely as good as him. he remains their best, perhaps their best ever.
